Just migrated from Windows 7 to Linux Mint
I am a long time Windows user and before that was an IBM and VMS programmer and system administrator.
When MS released Windows v8 with its Tiles I decided it definitely was not for me and certainly not the new and improved state and corporate spying. I tried Linux Mint about four years ago and knew it was the right direction but decided to wait until Windows 7 support ended.
I installed the current Linux Mint on my laptop and wow, it's better than ever. Very surprised that its installation and customization proceeded so well.
Thanks to all that worked to improved it, and thanks to all on this forum for helping others.
And thanks in advance for helping me in the future.

Welcome to the Linux Mint community. I hope you enjoy your Linux adventure.
For a free formal Linux introduction course, The Linux Foundation in cooperation with edX.org offers a free "Introduction to Linux" online course. See the following link:

The course is free if you do not wish to gain the certificate of completion. For new Linux users looking to gain a general insight in to Linux I highly recommend it.

Re: Just migrated from Windows 7 to Linux Mint
Welcome aboard. I suspect that with the demise of Windows 7, we'll be seeing a lot of converts to Linux Mint. It is a fantastic distro. Have fun.

Re: Just migrated from Windows 7 to Linux Mint
Hello Arius,
I am another W7 EOL escapee to Linux Mint. I had a 40+ year career in software development primarily on the Microsoft stack. Your thought process for changing to Linux was very similar to my own. I transitioned fully to Linux about two weeks ago and I am happy I did. Welcome to the forums, there is a wealth of information here. Enjoy.

Re: Just migrated from Windows 7 to Linux Mint
Welcome to all those who took the Linux Mint lifeboat out of Windows 7!
Though I bought this laptop with the intent of running Linux Mint on it, and I do, I kept Windows 7 in a dual boot. I am in Linux Mint 99% of the time.

Re: Just migrated from Windows 7 to Linux Mint
I just took advantage of what is still a free upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool), so the Windows partition on my laptop is now 10. I figured, "why not?" in case I do need to run a Windows program sometime.
But Linux Mint 19.3 is unaffected. And after I got W10 updated and such, it is now once again relegated to "use it only if I need to run a Windows program" status...
