[SOLVED] Nvidia GTX 1070 drivers issue

Post by MrDaves »

Hey !

I tried everything I know/found on the internet and nothing works.....
I have to boot with nomodeset ! Without it, I will juste have a black screen, nothing shown, no cursor, no text cursor, impossible to open terminal with CTRL + ALT + T, nothing....

I did a lot of commands to give a lot of output of my configuration....

Code: Select all

Yep, I've seen and tried this 1'000'000 times.... But I did it once again !

After reboot

Code: Select all

nvidia_drm 49152 4

drm 483328 8 drm_kms_helper,nvidia_drm,i915

#lsmod | grep nouveau
Nothing
But I still had to reboot with nomodeset on grub....
Another idea ?

When you get the black screen, try to enter tty1 by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1

Use these commands to upload Xog.0.log & journalctl log to terminal.com pastebin. Copy the URL address displayed after each command is executed:

Code: Select all

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | nc termbin.com 9999
journalctl -b | nc termbin.com 9999
Type reboot. Post the URLs.

If you can't enter tty1, select Advanced options > Recovery Mode at the GRUB boot menu. If no menu shows, then hold down the Shift key while starting. In the menu, select network - Enable networking and press ENTER. After returning to the menu, select root - drop to root shell promt and press ENTER. Press ENTER again.

Type these commands and copy the URL address displayed after each command is executed:

Code: Select all

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | nc termbin.com 9999
journalctl -b | nc termbin.com 9999
Type reboot. Post the URLs.

Re: Nvidia GTX 1070 drivers issue

Post by roblm »

These lines from the Xorg.0.log suggest there is a configuration file that is trying to load the Intel driver:

Code: Select all

[ 9.650] (==) No device specified for screen "Default Screen Section".
Using the first device section listed.
[     9.650] (**) |   |-->Device "Intel Graphics"
What is the output of using these commands:

Code: Select all

inxi -SMCGx
ls /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d
ls /etc/X11

Post the output of this command: xed /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/intel.conf

Okai solved ! Thank you very much !

SOLUTION : I simply uninstalled "xserver-xorg-video-intel-hwe-18.04" with sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove xserver-xorg-video-intel and autocomplete tab !

Reboot

Dooooone it works !!!

It's empty now, but the uninstall of the xorg-intel things worked for me !

Re: [SOLVED] Nvidia GTX 1070 drivers issue

The disadvantage in doing that is if you may decide to use the integrated Intel graphics some day, instead of the Nvidia graphics.
I was going to have you remove the intel.conf file after looking at it’s contents, which would have gotten the same result.

EDITED: removing the intel driver package resulted in removing the configuration lines in the intel.conf file
