My heart skipped a beat. I thought Moem was sending me a Valentine's card.

While not wanting to be the grumpy, spoil-sporty, no-funny-at-ally type of person that I, in fact, am, an "I love free day software day" and more specifically "express[ing one's] special gratitude" misses the point in a pretty fundamental way. By and large most any "free software" is developed by people scratching own itches, and/or doing it for own entertainment value, and/or making a fine living at doing so. Developers are doing it for themselves, not for you, so don't go being grateful, even if you might be appreciative....

I think it is pretty cool this exists, and while we can do our best to turn the cynical commercialization of Valentines Day into something that really means something (by doing something nice for the person we love), we should all do more in all aspects of our lives (imho).
So yeah, thanks for the heads-up Moem, and while i'm making the love of my life a nice meal served with chilled organic cava (she prefers that to champagne!), i will spend some time on the day spreading the love of Linux Mint and other free/open source software around.
I don't agree people are only in it for themselves, as if that was the case we would only have Apple/Microsoft and the like to choose from for OS. The open source devs i know (just a few) do it to fight against that possibility, so their motivation is very much 'altruistic' more than for self-enrichment (work for Apple/MS/other big controlling corporation if you want to get rich, or create you own closed/propriety software like Steam etc).

Laptop overheating? Check link here:itsfoss guide . Also a move from Cinnamon to XFCE can give a -5 to -10 degrees C change on overheating hardware.

Re: February 14 is for lovers...
A seemingly rather localised turn of thread, this. From context, "Tesco Value", sure I guess --- but whereas "Valentine Card" in and of itself I didn't in fact have to look up, if there's regions where sending one to one's daughter isn't in fact rather creepy, Wikipedia isn't so much helping...

Did you miss the post where Isemmens said that Valentine's Day was his daughter's birthday ?

Thanks mate, that is precisely why I sent it to her. She'll appreciate it. When I met my wife, I had NO IDEA about Valentines day.nakednorman wrote: ⤴Sat Feb 15, 2020 6:59 pm Did you miss the post where Isemmens said that Valentine's Day was his daughter's birthday ?
