[SOLVED] Authentication required loop

Post by SophieK »

Hi all,

since an upgrade i can no longer connect to an wireless network. They are shown, but as soon as i try to connect, i end up in a "Authentication required" loop. They password is correct. Sadly i don't know for sure what kernel version i had before the update, but now its 5.3.0-28.

I'm a little helpless here, since - to be honest - i'm no expert in networking or linux at all.
So i hope that maybe one of you knows whats going on here.

Watching syslog while an attempt to connect:

I also did a install with: sudo dkms install backport-iwlwifi/7906 -k 5.3.0-28-generic --force
Which worked for the dkms status, but was no help either.
I removed it completely afterwards, since it was no help.

Also tried the "wifi.powersave = 2" thing, without success.

Thanks alot!

Linux Mint 19.3 Tric
Linux 5.3.0-28-generic

I already tried to boot with different kernel versions, but had the same problem with these:
5.0.0-31 : Was already installed
4.18.0-25 : Installed it manually for the test (also got problems with the display driver using this)

PS: I also tried to reinstall iwlwifi backport while using these kernels, but that changed nothing.

Did you disable secureboot after installation of backport driver package? You can check status of secureboot with following command.

Code: Select all

mokutil --sb-state

kelebek333, thanks a lot for this tip. It worked :-D

Even dkms status looks fine without tinkering:

Code: Select all

dkms status
backport-iwlwifi, 8324, 5.3.0-28-generic, x86_64: installed (original_module exists)
