It happens whenever I start a new program or switch programs or open window or file or anything that would needs some extra CPU activity.
The screen freezes and only the mouse pointer works.
Is this my CPU overheating? Is this about the poulsbo drivers I installed? Or is this about something else?
Anyway, all help is appreciated.

It does sound like a hardware fault. First run memtest from the boot menu to see if you have faulty RAM. Then look at you logs in Lof File Viewer and see if you can find any error messages. Then anaylse your system with "top" run in a terminal to see what process is consuming CPU and RAM.

When I try to run memtest 86+ from the boot menu I recieve the message:
"Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory"
"Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory"
