No sound after tinkering with drivers

Hello, I was trying to get my jack output to work and while tinkering with it also my USB headphones stopped working after restarting. No I want atleast my USB audio to work. Here are some diagnostic commands:

Can anyone help pleasae? I want to get my USB headphones to work again atleast. Audio jack output would be bonus.

Hi blizzard384, and welcome to the forum.

We're probably going to need some clue as to what you've changed. Some hints:
1. Did you modify something in /etc/modprobe.d
2. Did you modify something in /etc/pulse
3. Did you create a .asoundrc file or a .pulse folder

For your line out issue, run dmseg | grep snd in the terminal. If this line exists in the output:

Then you need to run this to get your built-in sound card detected with the new kernel:

I know this is going to sound stupid but I simply don't know. I was trying a lot of stuff from random guides to make it work and then at some point restarted computer and sound stopped working. But I don't think that I modify or create any files.

Okay, try these.

First, delete the files in /home/YourUserName/.config/pulse, then run this command followed with a reboot:

Did you reboot after running that? That should have prevented the sof_pci_dev stuff from loading. I'm guessing something is stopping alsa so the sof_pci is gettting through.

Maybe we should try the kernel config path instead. remove the edit we did with sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-fix.conf

Then follow the steps in this post.

Reboot when done. If that doesn't change anything I have another idea, but it's going to take some time to find the command and I have to head to work right now.

I'll check in later once I find what I'm looking for.

Okay, I'm still having difficulty, but I realized this may fix this issue:

Delete the files in /home/YourUserName/.config/pulse then run pulseaudio -k in the terminal. Based on a post I found, there's a decent chance that's all you need here.

Okay, try alsactl init and paste any messages, then do pulseaudio --start and paste any messages. If pulse says already running, run pulseaudio -k so it'll restart and hopefully recognize that alsa is now running.

The USB audio and build in speakers are now working! Thanks you so much for your help.

The analog audio (3.5mm jack out) is still not working though. Do you know if it is possible to make it work please? On Windows when I connect the jack a pop up shows where I have to select if I want to use the the external speakers or build in. But nothing like that happens on Linux.

There's a few possibilities for this. Let's start with pacmd list-sinks now that sound is working. Run that twice, once with something plugged in and once without.
