Installing libpulse0 wants to uninstall Cinnamon and more

Post by Rua »

I'm struggling with the same problem. Installing libpulse0 wants to uninstall a bunch of stuff including Cinnamon. However, I get the same problem when I try the proposed solution:

Code: Select all

rua@rua-desktop ~ $ sudo apt install libpulse0=1:11.1-1ubuntu7.4
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  libasound2-dev libdbus-1-dev libibus-1.0-dev libice-dev libsm-dev
  libudev-dev libxcursor-dev libxi-dev libxinerama-dev libxss-dev libxt-dev
  libxv-dev python3-tinycss x11proto-scrnsaver-dev x11proto-xinerama-dev
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
Suggested packages:
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  cinnamon cinnamon-control-center cinnamon-control-center-dbg cinnamon-dbg
  cinnamon-settings-daemon gir1.2-cvc-1.0 gnome-settings-daemon
  libcanberra-pulse libcvc-dbg libcvc0 libpulse-dev libpulse-mainloop-glib0
  libpulsedsp libsdl2-dev libsdl2-mixer-dev mint-meta-cinnamon pulseaudio
  pulseaudio-module-bluetooth pulseaudio-utils
The following packages will be DOWNGRADED:
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 downgraded, 19 to remove and 37 not upgraded.
Need to get 265 kB of archives.
After this operation, 19,3 MB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] n
Any ideas?

FWIW, I remember I had to re-install pulseaudio-module-bluetooth after the library downgrade, as my Bluetooth stopped working. You can always make a Timeshift backup so you have a restore point when something goes wrong. A live USB, too, if you need that safety net.
