WiFi connected but no internet

Post by deeteaze »

Hi, I installed the only driver offered for wireless network card in the dual boot installation of linux mint cinnamon 19.3 alongside windows 10. The system tray displays that a wifi connection is established yet I cannot access the internet.

I followed a link that suggested a better driver for linux mint, however it said to run this command line first
sudo apt-get install mokutil && mokutil --sb-state

I did this and got the following
dee@dee-Lenovo-V145-15AST:~$ sudo apt-get install mokutil && mokutil --sb-state
[sudo] password for dee:

So it didn't show whether that Secure Boot is enabled or not.....therefore unsure what to do..... please can somebody help?

You don't have secure boot on that machine. What does these show:

Code: Select all

 inxi -Fxz

Code: Select all

 rfkill list all

I don't see any obvious problem, maybe someone will. Try rebooting your router.

Also, probably won't help, but try:

Code: Select all

 sudo service network-manager restart

You can try to install rtl8821ce-dkms from PPA repository. Reboot your PC after installation, you must disable secureboot from BIOS/EFI settings.

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kelebek333/kablosuz
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install rtl8821ce-dkms

Hi thanks for the input, however it has not made any difference, it did download and install the new driver, after reboot the wifi icon in the system tray was present and showed I was connected to the network but still no internet access. Any other ideas anybody? Thanks again

Hi,
Is there a particular reason you are using the 5.3 kernel?
Did you try the 4.15 and something didn't work?

If not, then try the 4.15 kernel. You never know - sometimes it works.
Do a backup and Timeshift snapshot first, just in case.

Hi, I was using the 4.15 kernel on initial install however I had the same problem, hence the upgrade to the current kernel. Thanks anyway.

Hi I copied and pasted the code into the terminal and this is the result ( however the output after the "top" command keeps changing, presumably this is expected?)
