Stick with Warpinator. It's hilarious.

Transferator

I think that might even be correct classical Latin.

May I assume it will work across Windows, MacOS and all versions of Linux?

For me it's pretty obvious: Mintshare or Sharemint :)

I would not assume that, since it will work with other computers that are also running that same tool.

I like "MintShare" or "ShareMint" - kinda sounds like Spearmint!

One thing I like about Mint is the sensible names for tools and programs. So something that is easily searchable would be great.

"Transmi(n)t"
"ShipMint"
"AllotMint"
"MintCast"
"DisperseMint"

Alternatives to "Warpinator":

Facsimilar (Inspired by the notion of a "fax" -- facsimile -- the sending and receiving of a document over a network.)
Spearmint (As squiggles3 remarked. Evokes the idea of sending/throwing, along with the obvious connotation -- and has a nice ring to it.)
Semaphore (Inspired by the notion of the communication device or act -- from the Greek for "sign" and "carrier"/"conveyor"/"bearer". Unfortunately, unrelated applications share this name.)
Mimission (Hybrid of mimeo -- mimeograph, duplication -- and -mission, as in transmission.)

Here's another:
Arclight (From the noun for "a lamp that produces light by generating an electric arc across and enclosed gas." Evokes the idea of value coming from electric transmission. FWIW, there's an "ArcLight Cinemas" I found with an online search. I like the ring of this one, but maybe folks will disagree it resonates well enough with the function of the app.)

How about Catch! instead of Warpinator? It's supposed to be a quick-and-easy file transfer tool on the local network. Let's have the name stress that it's just as easy as throwing an object across the room.
To get help, always post your system configuration. Open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T), type the following command and copy its output: inxi -Fxxxrz. To preserve formatting, please make sure to post it inside [ code] [/ code] blocks.

How about something really radical like "Network File Transfer Tool." Or would that give too many clues to its function?

I guess that nowadays most local networks are WiFi based. Considering that Guglielmo Marconi was the first person to transmit wireless signals, I think we should take this opportunity to honour him. So, my suggestion is MARCONI. A good, serious name which will stand the test of time.
Mint rules! (20.1 MATE) Cinnamon go home! :)

I think trebuchet would be a good name considering the intended functionality.

LANshare seems taken, but given that this seems to in fact possibly be an interesting tool (was just browsing the Github) that users might like to be able to remember the name of for longer than 5 minutes please resist anything non-boring.

LOL i would have used Mint File Transfer since everything is done over a network anyway but yeah, why confuse people like with Disks which is actually gnome-disks in terminal and gnome-disk-utility in package manager

Just gave Ubuntu 20.04 LTS a try and one thing that struck me straight away were system-sounds (notifications, warnings, etc).

Can you please, PLEASE, enable system sounds OUT OF THE BOX with LM 20?

Cheers,

Mike.

Had a lot of trouble previewing Xubuntu 20.04 via live USB on a Dell laptop that is running Mint 19.1 with a few known workarounds, and gave it up. Fingers crossed for Mint 20. I'm curious as to whether the LAN app is an improved GUI front end for Samba, or is entirely new.
TRUST BUT VERIFY any advice from anybody, including me. Mint/Ubuntu user since 10.04 LTS. LM20 64 bit XFCE (Dell 1520). Dual boot LM20 XFCE / Win7 (Lenovo desktop and Acer netbook). Testing LM21.1 Cinnamon and XFCE Live for new Lenovo desktop.
