WI-FI & Dual boot issues on 19.3.

Subsequent to the demise of my dedicated Mint 19.1 laptop I decided to install a new 19.3 ISO alongside a Windows 10 Home H.P. laptop.....It installed fine, but then I discovered I could use Linux Mint to access (and open) a great number of files from the Windows 10 partition......Given that I use Linux to prevent Microsoft from nosing around my activities, I'm a little miffed that since Linux can apparently, access my Windows OS, maybe Microsoft can access my Mint OS.

And secondly (apologies if this comment should be uploaded elsewhere), I now find out that the 19.3 Mint WI-FI connectivity process does not, and cannot function on HP notebooks...Maybe I'm mistaken though......Comments (on both issues) would be appreciated.

I can't say anything about your WiFi issue as I don't use WiFi but I can reassure you about Linux being able to access your Windows partition.

Linux sees it as just another partition and file storage area. Presumably the Windows partition is formatted ntfs and Linux can see partitions of that format as well as its native Ext2, Ext3 and Ext4 format partitions etc. So if you have the appropriate programs installed in Linux then Windows files with compatible formats can be read and edited while you are in your Linux part of your dual boot system. There's nothing untoward about that as it's basically the same as Windows programs being able to access files not only on the C: partition but also in, say, a D: partition if you set one up in Windows for your data files.

Windows, however, normally cannot see Ext partitions (I say 'normally', because I believe there are drivers that can be installed in Windows to allow it to see Linux partitions but I am not sure if this is entirely a trouble free solution). Both Windows and Linux can see and read and write to FAT32 which is the common format used with USB memory sticks and SD cards.

If you have security worries about files, you can easily password protect them individually or store them in a password protected folder.

Yes, I tried that.......The "missing" command updated all that was 'missing' but still the OS won't seek out a WI-FI signal.....Out of curiosity, I changed the disk and installed another which already had Zorin (Lite) installed as its only OS.....The WI-FI signal was sought and picked up perfectly.....I don't use Zorin though because it is a little unstable.

Yes, I've seen this article before......Even if it were to solve the issue, with the frequent updates it is too much hassle trying to deselect certain of them combined with the possibility of screwing things up trying to circumnavigate the problem.....I've just resigned myself to using only the ethernet cable with 19.3.....If Zorin were more stable, and as WI-FI connectivity is not an issue with that OS, it would be my preferred choice.....Which is a shame.
