MATE Weather Report no longer working <SOLVED>

Running LM 18 MATE. As of this morning 5/28/20 the weather icon in the panel has stopped working. Is anyone else having this problem with LM 18 or 19? Thanks.

UPDATE: The icon started working again on its own on 6/23. It was obviously a problem with the weather Metar provider moving to a new RHEL server.

UPDATE: 6/28 - Aviation Weather seems to be stable with their new RHEL release. Will continue to monitor.

UPDATE: 11/20/20 - The weather icon in the panel is not working again.

Seems to be a wide spread problem. Also broken on my Mint mate, Fedora mate and Debian mate systems. Installed meteo-qt as a backup.

I added the Weather Report applet to the panel in a VM booted from the Linux Mint 19.3 MATE ISO, so without applying any updates, and it doesn't fetch weather information there so I assume (if it worked before) it is the weather service it uses that changed something and this isn't caused by a recent package update. The MATE applet uses libmateweather to fetch weather information. Its code is here: https://github.com/mate-desktop/libmateweather. I can't easily find what weather service it is using. I don't know how to analyze this further.

Yeah - - my Weather Icon also stopped working Yesterday - as well.


I've also tried using the replacement, that can be added to the Mate Taskbar .. that doesn't work, either.

the previous Mate Taskbar Weather App was #4 in that list .. using the OpenWeatherMap App.
and there does seem to be an change in their API status, that has caused this issue.

I noticed mine also stopped working last night. It's definitely a Mate problem, and not a Mint problem as I use Devuan.

Its just started working again. Currently all good. No updates applied. Must of been a data provider issue.

The weather via calender -- and the single use panel applet -- noticed both went out of service early last week. And in the past two or so weeks -- maybe more -- there have been updates to the netplan.io package -- at least two prior to failure of the weather app. Then another update to netplan.io arrived late last week and voila! Weather info was back.

So for most folk who do seamless updates --I for one do not and choose to inspect at least the list of updates and decide -- could it be that it was the recent upstream twiddling with the netplan.io? Not sure but it seems as this package could be directly involved.

Any better guesses that this, please stem forward.

Yes, I can also confirm. Its not working again.

It think I am going to give up on using Weather apps and just have a toolbar link on my browser to the local Bureau of Meteorology.

Most frustrating, but I have had this sought of experience on most Distro's I have used over the last 20 years. Initially the Weather app or utility worked for a few years, then stopped working. In fact this has been a reason why I have gone to a different distro or version of a distro in the past.

Again very frustrating. I tried resetting the mate-panel as in the past it corrected this issue and got the following.
