Codenames

Post by iain_33 »

With Mint 20 "Ulyana" now out (ish), we're not far off the end of the alphabet. What's going to happen after the "Z" edition? Go back to "A" but do names ending in "B"? Or start again but with male names? Or will Clem take a leaf from Windows 10 and say Linux Mint 25 Z__a will be the last edition, which will receive updates, Linux Mint As A Service?

A pressing issue indeed

I thought it would be more imminent, given it's gone from A to U in 14 years?

That's because prior to Linux Mint 17 we also used the Ubuntu development releases, going through 2 letters per year. From Linux Mint 17 we only use Ubuntu LTS as a package base. The point releases for Linux Mint 17 used a different letter from the main release but from Linux Mint 18 the point releases use the same letter as the main release. We still have 2 releases per year but thus using only 1 letter per 2 years.

With a little bit of wry comedy, perhaps we should call V - Virus. :D That would confuse many of the Windows users.
