XnViewMP - segmentation fault in LM20 Cinnamon
I use XnViewMP a great deal. The latest version (96.3) fails to load in LM20 reporting a Segmentation fault. I have left a report on the sotware devs own site.
I note there is a flatpak version which I have managed to run OK in a Live USB environment (I cant upgrade from19.3 to 20 until I sort this) but that is quite old (93.1).
I feel that as the older version runs, then the dev for the software is the place to search for a cure in the newer version - would you agree? If not what should I be doing?
Thanks Dan

Re: XnViewMP - segmentation fault in LM20 Cinnamon
Hi, I had used XnViewMP in Windows for a while, a capable image viewer/editor.
It is not in the repos I guess. How did you install the previpus, working version?

Re: XnViewMP - segmentation fault in LM20 Cinnamon
I opened an issue with the XnView flatpak repo on GitHub; hopefully this will help. However, since this release is so new (from 6/25), you may want to try an earlier version until this is sorted out.

Another option is the AppImage: https://download.xnview.com/XnView_MP.g ... 4.AppImage
UPDATE: just installed a Mint 20 VM and the AppImage works.

Re: XnViewMP - segmentation fault in LM20 Cinnamon
The maintainer of XnViewMP is aware of the problem and actively looking into it.
In the meantime, you will find that v0.94.2 will work. You can get it (XnViewMP-0942-linux-x64.deb) from here:

Xnview 0.94.3 also works.
Re: XnViewMP - segmentation fault in LM20 Cinnamon
Thanks. Big help.
Update: Latest report at the XnView User Forum is that the new (30 June) 0.96.4 is still failing on Mint 20 Cinnamon.

TRUST BUT VERIFY any advice from anybody, including me. Mint/Ubuntu user since 10.04 LTS. LM20 64 bit XFCE (Dell 1520). Dual boot LM20 XFCE / Win7 (Lenovo desktop and Acer netbook). Testing LM21.1 Cinnamon and XFCE Live for new Lenovo desktop.
Re: XnViewMP - segmentation fault in LM20 Cinnamon
I was able to install the 0.94.4 deb, and it segfaults for me, too. But i could sudo run it, then it ran a qt init window, then after that xnvew started. But still not for my regular user.
Re: XnViewMP - segmentation fault in LM20 Cinnamon
OK, I got it working. I did a few things like uninstall qt5-gtk2-platformtheme and uninstalled and reinstalled qt5-gtk-platformtheme. I also ran qt5ct and having it rebuild my fonts config file. I think maybe since I copied lots of my .config files over that it had stuff from my 19.3 system in it?
Anyway, now it looks like its working. \o/

Re: XnViewMP - segmentation fault in LM20 Cinnamon
Deleting the 'qt5ct.conf' file in ~/.config/qt5ct resolved my issue with xnview core dumps on startup.

FWIW version .92 works perfectly.

Re: XnViewMP - segmentation fault in LM20 Cinnamon
Following up earlier, there is now a stable version 0.96.5 with a 64 bit .deb - any experiences with it on LM20?

(I've configured the older 0.94.3 on a couple of installs, wouldn't want to have to redo it.)

As you saw it first, why don't you test it for the rest of us?I2k4 wrote: ⤴Fri Aug 21, 2020 9:33 am Following up earlier, there is now a stable version 0.96.5 with a 64 bit .deb - any experiences with it on LM20?

Create a TimeShift snapshot beforehand and revert to that if it doesn't work so that you don't lose your old setup.
Re: XnViewMP - segmentation fault in LM20 Cinnamon
I've just downloaded 0.96.5 and it appears to run ok for me so far on LM 20 MATE.
Re: XnViewMP - segmentation fault in LM20 Cinnamon
0.96.5 is working nice for me on LM 20.0 Cinnamon \o/
Re: XnViewMP - segmentation fault in LM20 Cinnamon
Thanks. Adds some comfort to giving it a shot at updating the older version, that I've invested time into setting up.
[Update] It installed over the top of the older version, preserving the settings and seems running right on LM20 XFCE.
Update 2] XnView 0.97.0 .deb installed over 0.96.5 and works. Original problem with LM20 seems to be over.
