[solved] Razer Blade Stealth 2020 : black screen after hibernation & no luminosity keys

Post by jerume »

Hello,

I have a razer blade stealth 2020, kernel 5.7.10 and nvidia 450.57. I use nomodeset kernel parameter at boot.

Beside 2 things, everything works fine ( bluetooth, webcam, touchpad, wifi, etc.. :D ). Congratulation because not all distrib can handle this new laptop.

So first issue : even if the laptop wakes up after sleep, the screen stays black.

Just before going to sleep I see theses errors in the logs. I don't know if they are related :

Code: Select all

Jul 29 14:48:42 Kris kernel: [ 914.202437] ACPI Error: No handler for Region [VRTC] (00000000a5837ce2) [SystemCMOS] (20200326/evregion-127)
Jul 29 14:48:42 Kris kernel: [ 914.202440] ACPI Error: Region SystemCMOS (ID=5) has no handler (20200326/exfldio-261)
Jul 29 14:48:42 Kris kernel: [ 914.202444] No Local Variables are initialized for Method [RTEC]
Jul 29 14:48:42 Kris kernel: [ 914.202445] No Arguments are initialized for method [RTEC]
Jul 29 14:48:42 Kris kernel: [ 914.202446] ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.PCI0.LPCB.EC0.RTEC due to previous error (AE_NOT_EXIST) (20200326/psparse-529)
Jul 29 14:48:42 Kris kernel: [ 914.202449] ACPI Error: Aborting method \RWAK due to previous error (AE_NOT_EXIST) (20200326/psparse-529)
Jul 29 14:48:42 Kris kernel: [ 914.202451] ACPI Error: Aborting method \_WAK due to previous error (AE_NOT_EXIST) (20200326/psparse-529)
Jul 29 14:48:42 Kris kernel: [ 914.202454] ACPI Error: AE_NOT_EXIST, While executing method \_WAK (20200326/hwesleep-47)
The second problem I have with this laptop is that I can't use the keyboard keys to manage the screen luminosity.

Maybe some of you have ideas ?

Thank you!

My first thought was to ask if you have the latest BIOS installed, but error messages you see before putting it to sleep look like the ones I found discussed here. You are using an advanced kernel and I don't know enough about the differences to know if dropping back to 5.4 would help.

However, the last line in your graphics info, "Message: Advanced graphics data unavailable in console for root.", makes me wonder if how you installed the latest driver might not have gone as well as it could have. You might want to check Pjotr's blog page on installing the latest NVIDIA drivers to see if something there might be helpful.

Hey,

Thanks for your reply but so far i still have the issue.

Code: Select all

Graphics: Device-1: Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7 driver: N/A
           Device-2: NVIDIA TU117M [GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Mobile] driver: nvidia v: 450.57
           Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.8 driver: fbdev,nvidia unloaded: modesetting,nouveau,vesa
           resolution: 1920x1080~77Hz
           OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 10.0.0 256 bits) v: 3.3 Mesa 20.0.8
Maybe it will be fixed in a few months.

Yes, I don't know what driver the Intel should have, but "N/A" isn't it.

I'm also a bit confused with the display driver showing fbdev and nvidia. I would have thought it would be modesetting and nvidia, but I don't yet have enough experience to know for sure (especially on shiny new hardware).

Maybe someone else will be able to jump in and help.

Just did a quick search on "Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7" and came up with this review/evaluation from last year. It mentions the i915 driver I'm used to seeing with Intel equipment and also has a discussion about Iris technology. It appears to be a game review page? but describes how to get Iris working. It appears to have been written in 2019, so I would think there's something out there now in linux world which would help you.

That prevents the modesetting driver from loading, which is needed to drive the Intel GPU.

Thanks. Now I am using the 5.8.8 Kernel with "video=SVIDEO-1:d i915.modeset=0 button.lid_init_state=open" parameter but it still doesn't work..

Hibernation & luminosity finally work with 5.8.10, nvidia 450.66, and the only "intremap=off" kernel paramter.

Thank you open people.
