[SOLVED] Encrypted home directory password question...

Post by invex »

LM20 Cinnamon

I know the admin password can be changed by booting to recovery mode.
Can the admin password be changed even if the home directory is encrypted?
I didn't forget my password. I only want to make sure that if my computer was stolen, there would be no way to access my home directory.

TIA

Yes, but the new password won't open the encrypted /home directory. 8)

At least that's my understanding. I don't use /home encryption myself.

You're welcome. Checking my notes, I came up with a reference for my recollection, from forum guru xenopeek, whose expertise I trust without reservation. Notice this means you should backup your eCryptfs password separately. See post two up from the link; also, this tutorial.
