USER AND PASWORD problem

problem is when i start linux mint i take the mesage for user and pasworth name incorect but i know that i erote it exactly what can i do

In a terminal (ctrl alt F1)

 Assign a root password
To be able to log in as root directly, you must assign a root password. This can be done with:
sudo passwd root 

--then fix your users and groups
