WLAN Card not detected (Linux Mint 20 XFCE and Noob user)
Hello,
I recently installed Linux mint 20 on my Asus transformer book T 200 TA. After a lot of struggling with the installation itself, I finally managed to make it work. Only one problem remains: the Wi-Fi doesn't work. I can only connect to the Internet by using USB tethering on my phone. It seems like Bluetooth isn't working either. I have installed all the drivers, updated my system multiple times, and researched my problem online and tried many solutions – all the solutions that I found – but it seems like the wireless card is not detected.
I know my wireless card is a Broadcom, but I don't know for sure which model, because as my system cannot detect it I cannot see the detailed information about this card. Maybe there's a command line that I don't know I should use to see the wireless card information. I installed the drivers that were recommended to people with similar problems and similar machines, such as the T100, as this problem seems to be a recurring one across Transformer Books, but no success.
Some additional info, in case that's relevant:

I'm not super fluent in Linux but from what I understand my wireless card isn't even showing in those lists. When I click on the network manager icon, the only options I have are Ethernet network (Realtek RTL 8152) or Ethernet Network via my phone (which I am using right now). It looks like Wi-Fi doesn't even exist on this computer. I should add that the Wi-Fi worked fine when this laptop was still running Windows 8.
Thanks in advance for your help, and let me know if I should provide additional detail.

Does that machine have an airplane key (Fn & F2?) to turn wifi on?

@mathilda - You are correct that your wifi card, which also handles bluetooth, is not being detected. I would suggest getting a wifi dongle that is linux compatible as it appears that your wifi card is dead.

Hi Larry,
That may be, but he did say wifi was working on Windows.

Thank you both for your replies.
Before switching to Linux Mint, I had installed Fedora, and I was having the exact same problem. I thought it was because I did not know how to use Fedora, and I was unable to find solutions. So I got frustrated and switched to Linux Mint, because I'm more familiar with it, and thought that the Driver Manager would help me. No luck, unfortunately. And since I struggled a lot with this install, I'm wondering if my LM install went wrong somehow, and broke parts of my system.
Yes, it does. All the FN commands work except for that one.by sleeper12 » Wed Oct 07, 2020 5:30 pm

As @sleeper12 said, it used to work fine with Win8.1. I have read that Broadcom wireless cards can give a lot of trouble with Linux. The problem is, I cannot even know which model of Broadcom card I have because it appears nowhere when I run commands. This may sound like a stupid question,, but is it possible that I killed my wireless card during the installation?by Larry78723 » Wed Oct 07, 2020 5:36 pm

OK Mathilda, let's try this. Boot from your install media (USB/DVD) and see if wifi is working and let us know.

Me too, I thought it was either a dead card or dead airplane key.
