Things I would like to see in future Mints

There are a few things I would love to see in future Mints:

1. chocolate...okay just kidding..
2. Mint Menu as an applet for AWN<--dead serious!
3. Force Quit as an applet for AWN or the ability to add it as if it were an app right to the bar (yes, this is more a Gnome issue but...
4. Thoughts 2 and 3 come about because I hate, hate, hate having to have a gnome panel open as well as the dock if I want to use Force Quit and Mint Menu (and I do)
5. Perhaps a system notifications applet too? like for Mint Updates....

I was lured back to Mint 7 after leaving Mint 6 for Mandriva!!!

Sounds like most of these are issues you're gonna want to take up with the AWN people. I highly doubt Clem or the rest of the team will devote so much time to a specific application that not everyone will use.

That's not to say they're bad ideas (I would love to see a dock with MintMenu), it's just unrealistic when the team has so much going on.

AWN items are called launchers, not applets, and it is very easy to make your own ( http://wiki.awn-project.org/index.php?t ... the_bar.3F ). For example to make a force quite launcher just add the command : "gnome-power-cmd shutdown" to a launcher item. I don't know the command to raise the mintMenu but maybe someone else here know it then all you have to do yourself is make a launcher to that command.

I do not think AWN or specialist launchers should be added to Mint - these are extras that many will not want and can be installed later by the user.

Well anytime I open my AWN manager, I do tend to see a tab called Applets *quirks an eyebrow* and I was indeed referring to applets, not launchers thank you. I wanted an applet.. but at anyrate, well meaning I hope... And now a more sincere thanks for the command for a force-quit launcher, that was helpful.

Yes @ Kaye, probably unrealistic but it is just wishful hoping and you never know until you ask right? I would be a very happy camper with a mintMenu on the dock, I could stop using those awful panels i hate so much lol

@ Vrkalak, I agree..although Gnome-Do is my (by far) most favorite app, I don't like Docky..if it gets redone (a lot) I might get on board though...and Chocolate Mint for me lol

I, for one, would probably discontinue the use of Mint if it came default with any religious study material.

Did you follow the download links for Ubuntu? It looks very easy to me, they even have a deb to add the PPA for you.

As for adding it as default I don't think that is a good idea. We really don't want a situation where Mint appears to be for or against any particular race or religion.

In the Gnome desktop for Linux mint 7 (gloria) 32bit main edition
right-click panel>Add to panel>Force quit

Deluge instead of Transmission. VLC instead of Totem. An improved Pidgin that can actually best Skype (and on Windows!).

Other than that, Mint is damn near perfect as is! Having an optional AWN config that automagically replaced the bottom panel might be sweet. Maybe a script that just did that from somewhere in the personalize menu.

I did follow all instructions carefully. My comment still stands. Its a difficult program to install. As a Christian I believe its a very good idea to add Xiphos to the main program and many people would agree, I am sure. Let the people who don't wish to use it - Uninstall it if they so choose or just not use it. I am sure that you do Not use every program or app that is in the Main Distro. True, and fair enough, but I am sure you also realize that popular culture doesn't encourage niche products
--you can even see that on a non-philosophical basis

Someone may suggest that a media Linux mint be a default
--so they would be looking for dvd editors, non-linear editing and mythTV or other media display methods: they don't usually get it; and anyway Ubuntu has gone off in that direction already, with their customized niche packaging..

--I don't know if they would have a Christian edition, but it is a possibility; someone such as yourself could perhaps organize that, you would be using remastersys to customize a Linux mint to make it more custom for that specific user group

It is best to keep religion and politics up to the user. I am sure that someone here could help you install Xiphos if you need help. No disrespect intended for the suggestion and I hope you understand my response.

I would like to see only essentials to get the system running. It is my problem to add the things I would like such as operating temperatures, some launchers, games for my wife. My download speed is slow as molasses and that means that it takes me 10 hours to download an iso, so please do not do like you did with KDE. I don't use KDE but I see a trend with very high download speeds that are available some places in the world.

It is wonderful to have a working system right out of the box, but please don't include drivers for video or anything else we can do without to get going.

Mint Update and Synaptic are very good and easy to use to add on whatever your preferences might be.

Now, what I really want to see in future editions of Mint is a neural interface, and a roving Internet link so I can live online, everywhere I go. I know this includes hardware issues, so we have a lot of work to do.

I hope this never happens.. the world would be such a boring place. No one would ever talk to anyone else in real life, everything would be virtual. I doubt if we'd even leave our houses for much of anything. Blech

Since I never install nVidia proprietary drivers for my geforce 8500 card, I use default nv driver and it isn't that great. Yes, I did try the proprietary driver once, but I wasn't impressed when I finally got it to work. I'm using Nouveau in another distro and what a difference - very crisp look to the desktop in spite of it only being 2D. Maybe this will be implemented in a future Mint version. I use it in KDE4.

Out-of-the-box Deluge would be awesome! But I can understand that theres also a few dozen other apps that would be really cool to have ootb and theres just not enough space on 1 CD I tried AWN out and it was pretty cool.. I think a lot of people who try it like it... why do you need a special script for it though? It's pretty easy to grab from the repo.
