Boot Problem From LiveUSB

Post by aroundi »

Hello All,

I am new to this forum (although I've been reading various posts trying to get my new laptop up and running). I've just purchased a Gateway LT3103u netbook with the following specs:

AMD Athlon™ 64 L110 Single-Core Processor (1.2GHz, 800MHz FSB, 512KB L2 Cache)
2048MB DDR2 533MHz SDRAM Single Channel Memory
250GB SATA hard drive
ATI Radeon® X1270 Graphics and AMD RS690E Chipset
RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet Controller
Ar9285 Wireless Network adapter

I am trying to boot from LM7-64 LiveUSB (MD5 checksum OK) and get the following after selecting any of the boot options from the menu ...

After about 90 seconds of the Linux Mint logo and an activity bar I get:

Code: Select all

[0.776002] ..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC
[3.208015] ata1: softreset failed (device not ready)
modprobe: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic/modules.dep: No such file or directory

[6.004561] powernow-k8: BIOS error - no PSB or ACPI_PSS objects
Loading, please wait...

Busybox v1.10.2 (Ubuntu 1:1.10.2-2ubuntu7) built-in shell (ash)
Enter"help" for a list of built-in commands.
(initramfs)
I've seen some posts that talk about Bios problems and buggy DSDTs, but I'm not sure how to approach this specific issue. Any help someone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to Mint
It looks like you've got a problem...
Can you run lspci on it?
If so please post
I'll have to add this to my list of nuts to crack

I discovered this post - it seems that there is a problem with the LT3103u

Hi Husse,

Thanks for the reply and the warm welcome. I've made some progress ...

While booting the LiveUSB if the flash drive is removed momentarily then reinserted the systems boots successfully. The "8254 timer" and "softreset" errors appear just before X starts.

I've also installed onto the hdd and updated from synaptic, but still get the 2 errors but the boot is successful (yeeha). It would be nice to get rid of these errors and I'm wondering if they are contributing to my subsequent problem ... My wireless adaptor is not recognized. I thought I'd look around the forum / net and see if I could make any headway on my own before opening a new topic in the networking section (I think I may running out of things to try without help though).

Here's my lspci

Code: Select all

Does it stall for some time or do you just find the messages in a log?
And if I'm not mistaken I have just helped someone with an AR9285 wifi

Hi,

After selecting boot option from GRUB I get black screen The "Starting up ...", then the 2 errors are output to screen ( 3rd line appears but goes by so fast - possibly the ACPI error from above). There's not much of a stall. I'm wondering if these could be caused by a buggy DSDT?

Also, the backports to Jaunty fixed my wifi.

Yeah, I've been reading a lot of his posts. I decompiled my DSDT and have some errors that I didn't see a fix for. I'm not sure they are even important. I think I'll try to ask him for help. He's done some unbelievably excellent support for others I've noticed.
