Follow these steps: Open up a terminal, type

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Add the following lines to the file,then save and close.

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/gezakovacs/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/gezakovacs/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

Back in terminal, type

Code: Select all

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys FC91AE7E

Then,

apt update && apt install unetbootin

All done!

indeed some of the several instructions are a bit confusing, because it seems that LiveUSB pendrives can be created from a Linux as well as a Windows box.

You don't have to put them in! You get them out the Package Manager!!!!
Another misunderstanding is, that you have to download files from websites and install them one way or another. The software you need is in the Ubuntu repositories, which are simply accessed thru Menu->Package Manager (Synaptic). Once you have chosen your software it will be automatically installed.

The easiest way to create a USBLIve pendrive if you have Mint installed (not running from the LiveCD):
1. Go to Menu->Package Manager (you have to enter your password), enter usb-creator in the Quick Search field, mark for installation and press apply.
2. When the installation is finished go to Menu ->Administration ->USB Disk Start Up Creator
3. Follow the instructions and use either your MintCD or an ISO file to create you LiveUSB pendrive. That's all.

I will create again a new LiveUSB pendrive within the next half hour and will let you know the result.

Edit: my PIII 1.2 Mhz with USB 1.0 is quite slow, but in the mean time:
In advance, I formatted my 2GB pendrive to FAT32 and selected the remaining disk size with the slider to 1.2GB for persistent mode. I kept the second (lowest) radio button unselected. Installation is 75% ready now ... will be back asap.

Edit: The good news: It worked and booted my other laptop (winXP) flawlessly.
The bad news: It is not persistent! This was different some months ago ... edit: with Ubuntu 9.04 before I went to Mint.
Now I need help...anybody?!

Sorry skicrazer, I incorrectly assumed you were running Gloria.

No matter, simply reopen /etc/apt/sources.list, and change "jaunty" to "intrepid".
Like:

Gees, I did your routine and thought it would have worked, but I do not see an Administration sub-menu. I'm running Felicia XFCE, btw. ?? This seemed to be the easiest solution.

the described procedure was with Mint Gloria Gnome. A dont know Felicia and XFce yet, but after the installation of usb-creator, you should find it in the menu where all your applications are located. Its name probably is also USB Disk Start Up Creator.
