Wi-fi breaks after every restart/shutdown on Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon

Hi,

Problem is as title says. What I've been doing as a workaround is, I plug in on an Ethernet cable, then run sudo apt-get update. It works like a charm but, yeah, I really wish I didn't have to this.

Is there a way to fix this issue permanently?

sudo apt-get update shouldn't have anything to do with restarting your wifi/network.
That command merely updates your apt list.

@MartyMint oh. I didn't know that. Sorry, someone recommended that to me and it "worked". By "worked", I mean it was probably a coincidence and then, in my lack of experience with Linux, I was lead to think that it was the command that did the trick. But thanks for teaching me on what the command does!

@sleeper12, weirdly enough I just did two reboots and the Wi-Fi driver was working fine this time!! Should I still proceed with the command in this case or only execute it if it breaks again?
Also, I'm thinking maybe it's the system updates that might have something to do with this, because twice have I updated some system files, and it coincidentally broke around these instances.

It just broke again after an update and a reboot.

I did what sleeper12 told me, I copy pasted the command and rebooted. Still, no wi-fi signal.

Then... and I'm not joking nor I know why this helps, I ran sudo apt-get update, it returned this:

Hi.

So, the Wi-Fi driver became erratic again.

And by erratic I mean, 9 out of 10 times it will boot and the Wi-Fi driver isn't there.


And, when I get my Wi-Fi driver functioning, now I can't connect to the internet. So what I do is turn off the wireless, but, when I turn it on again, then the Wi-Fi option completely vanishes.


Couple of additional information that I didn't give before:

• I do know now that I have an Intel Wireless 7260 and the driver listed is iwlwifi. But it doesn't show that most of the time, because the computer doesn't detect it
  Also, I do know that it doesn't support 5GHz Wi-Fi, and my signal is dual channel: 2.4 and 5Ghz. I'm wondering if this is the culprit?

Well, just had the chance to boot the machine with the Linux Mint today and... Wi-fi is working.

I'm not sure at the moment if it just worked at random or if it was the changes (I turned Ipv6 off like you mentioned and set the wifi for 2.4Ghz only, which is what my intel wireless 7260 supports)

Hi, same user with the same problem... again

I'm not sure what the problem is at this point. It was working fine - the wifi- for a good month and a half with Ipv6 disabled and 2.4GhZ selected, but I just turned the laptop on these last days and... no wifi signal at all.

Let's update/restore your firmware. The next time your wifi is up, copy-and-paste the following terminal commands...

You'll need to open a terminal and copy and paste one line at a time and hit enter. Hopefully, the problem will cease to exist once it's done.

No, the new firmware that I want you to download was not already installed. You have firmware v1.187, I directed you download firmware v1.194 -- so it does not appear to have successfully installed.

In this case, you may ignore all of the 'W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/amdgpu/...' absent AMD video driver errors...

Try again when you have a wifi connection. It is always a good idea to have a USB wifi adapter on hand, to use whenever internal wifi has a problem. For example, I have the OSGEAR UW150BT that has both WiFi and Bluetooth, and it works right-out-of-the-box with Mint.
