(SOLVED) my keyboard writes by itself
Hello, the day before yesterday I was working in an office Write document and my keyboard started typing by itself "çççççççççç" there was no way to stop it. I reset the system, thinking it may have been a passing problem y also check for this key not to be stucked. Today, right now, I am typing into whats app app and same key start typing by itself "ççççççççç...." and when I tried to delet I got everything deleted,,,,an unstoppable deliting .
What can it be?
Which info can I provide?
I am under LM 18.3 Mate , have applied latest updates from 1 to 3 .
Running "transmition" and "whats app", no key seem to be stuck. Have an infrared wireless mouse.

Re: my keyboard writtes by itself
Can you swap out the keyboard and try another?
In the Control Center, Hardware > Keyboard, there are some options under "Repeat Keys". Could try unchecking or change values.
The GUI options seem to be the same as kbdrate
There some additional options that affect the keyboard, under Assistive Technologies > Keyboard Accessibility. Hitting the "Help" button on the lower left corner has details on the options. Only make one change at a time and try it out for a while. If it doesn't work, set it back and try another.
There are a number of hits at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ for "keyboard" "stuck", but I don't see a solution yet. I'd try the above first.

Re: my keyboard writtes by itself
Thank you so much for you reply.
I would like to say, that after my post I continue using this computer the whole day and didn't get the same "error" again. However I have checked your options
Option 1: I have a notebook and don't have a spare notebook keyboard, neither I know how to change it.
Option 2: thanks for this tip , I unchecked the "key repetition" to see what happens.... altough it is a bit difficult to delete some caracters, I mean to do it one by one is a bit tiresom, but will have it like this to see what happens.
Option 3: Assistive Technologies has the "persistant keys" first check "simulation...." unmark , the secon is "deactivate persistant keys if they are hit twice" this one is check and I think this could help me. (My sistem is in Spanish so please forgive if the translation of the windows isn't quite right)
My touchpad is quite sensitive I wonder if this has something to do (just in case I found and set on the option to "disable while writting" in the same Assistive Technologies window). Sometimes I "turn it off" since I have wireless mouse , because I changes the cursor position and mess all my writtings.

Re: my keyboard writtes by itself
update: the problem only occurs when the theme ambiance darkness is applied.
Re: my keyboard writtes by itself
Hello, I pop up this thread again, since I am the same problem once again. This time I checked and there are no accessibility options on, but keyboard is set to repeat some caracter which is useful to me so I can erase a line for instance in one long pressing.
Last time the problem was solved by removing and changing the "theme" or "appearence theme". I have a default Mint - Y - Dark theme and nowdays I am under LM 19.3 this is my computer:

Re: my keyboard writtes by itself
Help anyone? please.
Re: my keyboard writtes by itself
After all this time I suspect you have tried multiple keyboards.
You might be in Antarctica now, but I'll bet you are not there year round

Re: my keyboard writtes by itself
Thanks for your reply, you are alright I have 2 keyboards, one integrated in the laptop and the other is an usb keyboard.
Re: my keyboard writes by itself
So now the problem occurs with any theme. Did Option 2 (remove Repeat Keys) fix the problem?
I gather your Locale is Argentina?? You use 19.3 Xfce. Perhaps MrEen will chime in.

Re: my keyboard writes by itself
Nowdays it happens with any theme. But it happens at random,at first I thought it was a problem with my wireless mouse and even with my USB keyboard , but it isn't, because I have unplugged them and the repetition continues. However today I am not having any troubles. It seems it got tired yesterday, when it messed up all my work.
Indeed I use 19.3 xfce and my keyboard layout is Spanish, Model set in "generic PC10 keys"

It is possible the fullness of your root partition might be contributing to this issue. Here are some tips to free up space How to Clean Linux Mint Safely. Maybe that will help.

Thank you very much. I will see that tips. Today I haven't had the problem, but this tips are very useful , thanks.SMG wrote: ⤴Sat Jan 16, 2021 6:41 pm It is possible the fullness of your root partition might be contributing to this issue. Today my partitions are like this: There is no much difference I know. Also I will try to make it bigger.
I have also activated "gnome settings daemond media key", which I have deactivated before (without knowing its purpouse), at the start up.
Re: my keyboard writes by itself
I couldn't make bigger my / , so I moved it to another partition, and mounted (long story) now my partitions look like this:

The one colored orangeis "root "/" Hope it is ok. Anyway. the problem persists , even in bios where arrow selection options moves by itself... keyboard with gost
I wonder if this is a hardware problem.

Re: my keyboard writes by itself
There is no operating system working while you are in BIOS. If it is happening while you are in BIOS then it is a hardware issue (unless there is a BIOS setting for the keyboard).

Re: my keyboard writes by itself
I understand. No my Bios doesn't have a keyboard setting option.
I wanted to add that I am having troubles with touchpad aswell, in the system. It gets frozen.
I haven been messing up with any part of the hardware, But you may lilght to know, couple of month ago I bought a PS2 adaptor in order to plug (and covert) a PS2 keyboard into an USB one. I spoiled my keyboard. I am giving here facts but I don't know if thiese have anything to do. Since the "wirtting along issue" used to happen a long time ago.
I removed the internal 3 V battery from my laptop and SDD disk (just in case) then turn off the power, to fresh it , I know this not the way to "reset" a Bios, there are jumpers involved but I didn't want to open the laptop to search for something I don't know how to use.
I am wondering if this partition setting could be another factor that could be affecting . Grub - /home and / at the end.
I refuse to think I spoiled my internal keyboard, or touchpad. But everything could happen maybe a chip fried, I don't know.
Don't even know where to start testing.

Re: my keyboard writes by itself
Many BIOS's have an option to "reset" in the menu, if you want to reset to factory defaults.
Using jumper wires is usually done when one can not get into the BIOS menu to reset it, but you can get into the BIOS.
The only keyboard issues I've had have been some keys not working and I replaced that part of the laptop. I've never had a repeating key issue, so I do not know what else to suggest. Maybe someone else will have ideas.

Thank you. I see.
Are my partitions ok? , I mean is it good to have / (root) after /home?

Re: my keyboard writes by itself
There are people who have / and /home on completely different drives, so I would not think it makes a difference if your / is before or after /home on the same drive.
