[SOLVED]NVIDIA X server screen settings blank

Post by doraelixir »

When I open the NVIDIA X server screen settings application, it opens up blank as shown:
Screenshot from 2021-02-12 21-04-43.png
It had opened up properly the first time I had started it after switching from nouveau to nvidia proprietary drivers. Then I switched prime profile to "intel power saving mode" and restarted the OS. Since then it opens up blank.

I have tried switching to nouveau and then switching back to proprietary and I have tried selecting the older nvidia-driver-450 instead of nvidia-driver-460 but it did not work.
This is on a new installation of linux mint 20.1 cinnamon.

Re: NVIDIA X server screen settings blank

Post by roblm »

That happens after the ubuntu-drivers-common package is updated. The nvidia-prime applet in the System Tray also is missing in Intel mode. There are two solutions discussed in this post:
viewtopic.php?p=1964608#p1964608

This post has the solution by burntex:
viewtopic.php?p=1964360#p1964360

Use this command to open the /usr/bin/prime-supported file:
xed admin:///usr/bin/prime-supported

Change this line:

Code: Select all

if [ -e "/var/lib/ubuntu-drivers-common/requires_offloading" ]; then
To this:

Code: Select all

if [ -e "/var/lib/ubuntu-drivers-common/requires_offloading" || true ]; then
