There is a possibility that I may load Linux Mint 7 "Gloria"
KDE on my eee netbook. But before I do, a few questions.
1.
I need to make sure my security camera, which used java,
works. In the past I used sun-java because icedtea java
would not work although that may change recently (due to
Sun releasing its java to icedtea). Can someone with the
latest version try to see he/she can play a puzzle game
on
http://www.jigzone.com/
If you can do this, then I know the security camera will
work. And if successful, please cite which java you are
using.
If you have an older version of Linux Mint KDE, do NOT
bother. I am specifically interested in the version
based on Ubuntu/Kubuntu 9.04 Jaunty. [Fyi, #1 (Crunchbang)
9.04 with sun-java does not work. Also, the latest 9.04
version (including derivatives) works better on the 701 eee
- internet drivers are included.]
2.
Roughly, how much disk space does Linux Mint 7 "Gloria" KDE
uses? I have only 4G on the eee netbook and I want to load
up Simon (voice recognition), which may use 1G, as well.
[I want KDE too because Simon needs it.]

If you need it, the lapic data on my 701 4G eee netvook is

Thank in advanced for your help.

Re: A few questions before trying Mint "Gloria" KDE
You will essentially fill the 4G with Mint KDE plus that software, leaving precious little (if any) room for data and temp files.
IMHO Mint KDE, Mint Gnome or any other distros using KDE and Gnome are not suitable for that machine. They are too large and consume too many resources. If it were me I would use a distro designed specifcally for netbooks - of which there are many.
