no sound after suspend 20.1
Hello
mi pc start without sound problems, after suspend it, the audio does not work
i ran before and after the command wget http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh -O alsa-info.sh && bash alsa-info.sh
before http://alsa-project.org/db/?f=8a6bf5a53 ... ad4d5ab4af
after http://alsa-project.org/db/?f=6848ed783 ... da83176c4b
i look for the differences between to reports are mainly related to the "converter" "stream" value

Re: no sound after suspend 20.1
Hi lettebetta, and welcome to the forum.
I don't see anything in those outputs that would indicate an issue, so let's see if PulseAudio is to blame. Please run this one in working and non working cases:
EDIT: You can also test if running

Re: no sound after suspend 20.1
Okay, I saw a case like this a few days ago on another forum.
Does
Does
sudo alsactl restore
get it working again? If not, how about sudo alsactl init?-

ok
sudo alsactl restore didnt fix the problem (no message in the command)
sudo alsactl init show the message:

Re: no sound after suspend 20.1
I see nothing in your outputs that show why this is happening. They are identical where they need to be.
Let's try something different. In the terminal run
Change it to this:
Save the file, reboot, then test your sound before and after suspending.
Let's try something different. In the terminal run
xed admin:///etc/pulse/default.pa
and when the file opens find this section:
Code: Select all
### Automatically suspend sinks/sources that become idle for too long
load-module module-suspend-on-idle

Re: no sound after suspend 20.1
Now that's even stranger!
What apps are you using to play sound?

for the outgoing sound, i tried with the test in the same sound control
i tried youtube (chrome)

Re: no sound after suspend 20.1
When the sound stops working does this play some sound:
Code: Select all
aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav

Re: no sound after suspend 20.1
the command works before..... but after i suspend the computer... no sound
another clue or weird fact
if i use headset plugged there is sound through the headphones before and after the suspend, i plugged and unplugged but still no sound through the speakers
so, it looks like the problem is related to the speakers or their volume.

Re: no sound after suspend 20.1
Okay, that is really strange regarding the headphones!
The speaker controls are identical in working and non working cases, so I'm struggling to come up with some ideas here.
This is a shot in the dark, but run

This is a shot in the dark, but run
alsamixer
in the terminal and arrow over to the Auto-Mute Mode column, then hit the down arrow until it says Disabled, then test the suspending again.Re: no sound after suspend 20.1
This sounds similar to my problem. When my computers have no sound, generally in PulseAudio Control under configuration my output will be off. Turning this back on (selecting a profile) will make sound work again. Every now and then it's just in sound settings and the output profile there (from the taskbar).

Re: no sound after suspend 20.1
hello
first of all, thanks for your time and help
i ran alsamixer in the terminal and put into Disable mode the Auto-Mute Mode column, the problem is still the same
if i open pulseaudio control, under configuration, i can see this, there is no change before or after the problem

Re: no sound after suspend 20.1
Your outputs before and after suspending are not different in any way that should be affecting your speakers. The fact that headphones are working means the issue is at some deeper level than what those outputs expose.
I only have one idea left that might help:
Run that with working sound, followed by this one:
Paste the output here, then do the same after suspending/waking. I'm hoping there'll be a difference in the listings that indicates where the issue is.
I only have one idea left that might help:
Code: Select all
echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/module/snd_hda_codec/parameters/dump_coef
Code: Select all
cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0

Re: no sound after suspend 20.1
Well spotted! That was the only difference that matters here.
Now, install alsa-tools and after the next suspend, run these 2 commands then test the sound:
EDIT: Don't be surprised if the speakers make a pop or crackle noise after running the second command.
Now, install alsa-tools and after the next suspend, run these 2 commands then test the sound:
Code: Select all
sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x20 SET_COEF_INDEX 0x10
Code: Select all
sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x20 SET_PROC_COEF 0x0020

Re: no sound after suspend 20.1
ok
i did install ALSA-TOOLS and ran the command (before suspend) and here is the result
nothing happens, i suspend it and the problem is still there, so to be shure y ran again the command:
and the difference still is after Coeff 0x10: 0x0220 and before Coeff 0x10: 0x0020
i did it twice...maybe... im doing something wrong

Re: no sound after suspend 20.1
Yes, you should only run the two lines after waking from suspend. Something is changing the COEF stuff when you're suspending, and I'm hoping those commands will get the sound working by changing it back. If it works, then we can find a way to automate it next.
