Re: Mint 8 stable release available
I have not seen a development release yet but normally the 64 bit version follows quickly after the main edition. How about 64 bit ISO's, will they be available soon?

Re: Mint 8 stable release available
The Universal Edition has language packs right on the CD and a one click install for codecs. The Universal Edition is built for distribution in countries with patent laws like the US.Yeah, is Universal the same as Main?

Re: Mint 8 stable release available
I mean't on the "8", which, the Universal or the other one? Anyways, i think it's the other one. Download froze twice after about 200-300MB so i guess i will have to be patient and download later.
It says on page 17 of the user guide,
Ext4 worked fine in Gloria, what happened?

.Also make sure to assign “/” for its mount point and to
select “ext3” for its file system..

Re: Mint 8 stable release available
Ext4 here in Mint 8. All is fine. And the version needed is the 688MB one, not the 'universal'. No codecs were installed when I tried that one.mzsade wrote:I mean't on the "8", which, the Universal or the other one? Anyways, i think it's the other one. Re: Mint 8 stable release available
There is a one click install in the menu that makes it identical with the main edition as far as codecs are concerned. I tested this and it works flawlessly. No codecs were installed when I tried that one.
Re: Mint 8 stable release available
Excellent. Very happy it works. And from the official release announcement page, here's the description of the 'Universal Edition'...exploder wrote:There is a one click install in the menu that makes it identical with the main edition as far as codecs are concerned. Introduction to the Universal Edition:
The Universal Edition is a customized version of the Main Edition with the following differences:
* It comes as a liveDVD instead of a liveCD
* It comes with built-in support for English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Swedish, Danish, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese/Br, Portuguese/Pt, Arabic, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Galician, Dutch, Russian, Polish, Norwegian, Japanese, Ukrainian, Romanian, Slovenian, Catalan, Greek, Czech, Slovak, Marathi, Norwegian [nynorsk], Croatian, Bulgarian, Turkish, Hindi, Finnish, Hebrew, Serbian, Belarussian, Basque and Bosnian.
* It comes with no codecs, no support for restricted formats and no proprietary components.
* It features an extra item in the Sound & Video menu which launches the installation of all missing codecs via a built-in .mint file
The purpose of the Universal Edition is to bring a localized live system to non-English speaking users of Linux Mint and to facilitate the distribution of Linux Mint in countries where software patents are enforceable (USA, Japan).
