Hats off to Clem and the Team. :D

I've installed and have been running Mint 8 for a few hours without a single problem. :)

Yeah, actually saw the stable release this morning in the UK mirror and went for that. Absolutely love it.

One small caveat: the latest version of Cairo Dock is having problems with Mint 8. Haven't seen anyone on Ubuntu talking about Cairo Dock problems in 9.10, but then again I didn't check real hard. If I install cairo-dock from Synaptic, I get that "do you want OpenGL or not?" question, over and over, no matter how many times I choose yes or no. It's an endless window that seems to only go away by uninstalling the app.

Anyway, I found a solution to this problem. I went to Cairo Dock's download page and got an older version - in my case, 2.06 - both the dock .deb and the plug-ins. Installation of the plug-ins requires libxklavier12 (no, libxklavier13 or higher will not work), and found that here.

EDIT: Should probably add that you then need to add cairo-dock* to the list of unwanted packages in MintUpdate.

Not the most graceful solution but it works. Everything else in 8 is fantastic. Thanks very much for the great work!

I only really have two complaints about the system:

1) It cannot seem to detect a mobile broadband connection. At all. Whenever I try to connect via mobile broadband, I get the following error message:

2) Every single time I sign in, I get this pop-up warning me that my battery is only at 27% capacity. My battery is fine. I do not want to see this message, least of all every time I log in.

It's pretty important that I get this sorted soon, so any and all advice would be really helpful.

Begging your pardon, but the point of this thread is what, then? Just to praise the operating system? I'm more than happy to post in Support, but I was under the impression this a thread for discussing Helena.

EDIT: Sorry if that came across as snappy. I've already found a relevant thread with a possible solution. I just thought this was a discussion thread. I love Helena, everything else is just dandy, honestly.

red-e-made sorry if I annoyed you - this topic is to praise and bash Helena in general
If we started giving support here it would soon be totally confusing with lots of different people and different problems intermixed and I would loose track of it all :)

Of course, that's fully understandable. Gotta keep the forums tidy, after all.

@red-e-made - You're probably going to have to live with boot-up battery warning. That's an known upstream problem from Karmic. Shows up on both my ASUS netbooks.
