Just create '.icons' folder in your user directory (if it's not there already), download https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1305251/ and unpack the tar.xz file and move the unpacked folder to the '.icons' folder. The icon pack should be then available in Appearance/Theme settings.

I wanted to try these icons myself and this is the result. Unfortunately my system tray refuses to use them for all the icons just like some of the controls in Caja file manager. On the dock the apps not using the candys are actually web apps made with the Brave browser itself, not the Mint's webapps manager, so I will need to change these icons myself. It's only a test. I'm going back to Mint-Y-Dark icons anyway.

It can take a little digging but I think most (not all) the icons on the panel including the system tray (maybe ? ) are found in /usr/share/icons/Adwaita. since I set my icons in the panel (Symbolic icon size setting) to 32 pxI found them in the 32x32 folders. You have to hunt around but when you find the icon you want to replace rename it and then cut and paste the neon icon in the folder and give it the exact icon name you renamed.
here is my panel with the replaced icons

here is usr/share/icons/Adwaita/32x32/devices for example - you can see the origal panel icon on the right that I renamed ( why the colors look different I can't explain)

Putting packs in user folder is okay if you only want them available for one user. For those with multiple users, put these in /usr/share/icons so all users can have access and use them.

Code: Select all

sudo cp -r NameOfIconFolder /usr/share/icons

Convention (and practicality as it means you know what is stuff you've chucked in the system yourself, rather than installed via apt would be to create and use /usr/local/share/icons for manually added icon themes you want available to all users. Also a good place to modify copies of the stock icon themes for all users as it has precedence over /usr/share//icons

Another one of those useful commands I've been too lazy or too stupid to bother with - despite that it would have saved me a LOT of hassles over the years.

One more thing I should add to .inputrc
