You don't access Wine directly (even if you install it with the instructions from the Wine site that you linked). You right-click a Windows executable file, and it will say "Open with Wine":

That's what I meant by not being able to access it: I right clicked to choose wine but it's not on the list.

Disregard above. I also installed "Wine" now in addition to the previously installed "Wine-stable". Now it works! Thanks for your time and patience.

Except I can't access it.
The installations seem to go fine but WIne never appeared.
It was probably installed when you wrote that comment. ^^

And you accessed it when you entered wine --version; wine usually doesn't "appear".
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
Your data and OS are backed up....right?
