[solved] Virtual Box VM list - text contrast

Post by axrusar »

Guys.. do you have this issue on your VB GUI? I have a hard time reading the text on the VMs list if i am using my small 14 inch laptop monitor.
Anyway to fix it? i have tried switching to alternate theme options on my mint 20.3 Cinnamon setup without luck. And i do not see any theming options within VB.

Open Users & Groups and create a new account for testing. Reboot and log into the new account. How does it appear there?

Yes i see.. I am using a dark theme. I tried switching to several other dark ones and i have the same issue.
If i switch to a light theme and launch VB, then i switch back to a dark theme, VB actually shows me dark text as it should, but once i close and re-open the program, the text is back to that unreadable light gray as my first screenshot. My other programs do not have this issue, so i guess is a bug in VB when using dark themes.
If anyone knows any .conf file i can tweak for VB please let me know. thank you

Just tested on a VM with Vanessa and new fresh VB install. Then switched the "control" part of Mint themes to a dark one.. same problem

I see VB uses QT.. i remember tweaking some things in a QT panel when i had my nVidia chip giving me hell on my previous laptop. I do not see that panel on the mint settings now.. where was it?

Using dark themes in VB is a known issue, which will not get solved in the VB 6.1 branch: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/18258 ... num_hist=7

Perhaps this helps: viewtopic.php?t=283835

My hat off to you!!!
Thank you!!!!!
pizzadude wrote: Wed Dec 19, 2018 6:11 pm VirtualBox 6.0 doesn't like dark themes, so text is light grey on white, making it unreadable. To fix this without butchering our other Qt5 applications theme, create a file in /usr/local/bin/ call it "VirtualBox" without quotations, and put this inside:

Code: Select all

QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE=fusion /usr/bin/VirtualBox
Then just:

Code: Select all

sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/VirtualBox
All done!
