Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2023
Still sorting out Transparent background GTK Themes in Mint 21.1 Xfce.
Sometimes colours can be hard to read against Wallpapers like this one. Appearance > Style takes a while to scroll through all the Mint-X and Mint-Y options until I get to what I want.
So I did a quick bash script so I can quickly change the Text to a contrasting colour, or to a style that does away with Transparency, but still looks decent on my GTK stuff like Firefox, LibreOffice and Thunar. The GUI doesn't close until I click the Quit button, so I can immediately swap to a suitable theme just for work in one App, then back again.
Wallpaper is from NASA's Jimmy Webb telescope.

Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2023
This is a rehash of something I was messing with in Mint 19 or 20. There's way 'Two Much Green' for the Conky to work, or for the Transparent Thunar File Manager to be any use, But it was fun seeing how far I could push the 'greenness' of a Mint themed wallpaper.

Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2023
This post is just to test the new Image Upload (via imgBB) button.
It was painless and seems to work well.
The advantage to Forum 'posters' is that it is a lot simpler than opening an Imgur (or similar) account, then dragging an image in, adding a title etc, and then submitting it as a post.
The only disadvantage I see for the moment is the less intuitive layout of imgBB website, but that's probably because I haven't used it before.
The immediate advantage for Mint Forum 'viewers' though is the easy access to the full resolution image once the imgBB site opens.
Now, I'd better go complete the Poll . .

Mint 21.1 Xfce Theming
Azenis-RAD - almost finished modifying the Azenis theme with my 'green bits' to match the rest of the Desktop.

Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2023
Almost there with my Green GTK Theme mods. The last hurdle (I hope) was making the highlight in the Menu a decent Green.
I finally got the css changed in most of the GTK stuff, but I managed to have the green highlight when I select an item in the Mint Menu, far too bright. So the White text doesn't stand out quite enough. I wanted everything to almost match the Conky Greens so there's still a bit to do - but it is getting close.

Back to the good ol' version of Cinnamon where everything simply works (including the flipping cuz no flipping = no VSync in games)! It took me a while to figure it out how to downgrade it on Arch but I finally did it, so now all the cinnamon packages are "frozen in time", a.k.a added to the ignorepkg of pacman.conf.

Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2023
My newbie LinuxMint screen complete with left-hand column of icons, one of the few Windows features I still cling to. This arrangement just feels more intuitive to me. The low resolution wallpaper is one of the few I've created (as opposed to "stealing" off the web"). It is an old photo I took of a disintegrating metal seawall/breakwater along the Merrimack River where it empties out into the Atlantic, with colors limited and Linux text and icon made with gold metallic pattern file that I managed to import. I'm also a newbie when it comes to GIMP, having to now learn to do for myself what Paint Shop Pro 6 used to do for me "under the hood."

Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2023
Something that is worth trying, is to use GIMP's rectangle select, pre-set to the dimensions of your ultra-wide display, or better still, pre-set to the ratio (16:10 or whatever is your ultra-wide monitor's ratio).
So for an example, a 3840 x 1080 (doublewide) screen would be a 28:12 rectangle (probably 30:10 would be close enough).
Then find a UHD image, import it into GIMP, and place the rectangle over the image and move it to select whatever part of the image looks best.
If you set the image capture hot keys of VLC or MPV or whatever you like to use to view movies, you can select a scene from a favourite movie, open that in GIMP and use the pre-sized Rectangle Select to frame just the area you want.
Obviously, you can also drag the rectangle select cursor over the image until you get the ratio right.
There are many ways to find a suitable background, either from your own cameras, online sites or from movies you watch.
U P D A T E:
Here's a quick example using GIMP.
Image is reasonable resolution and is 3840 x 2160 size. Imported into GIMP.
Looking at the preview here, Your screen must be something other than 3:1, but whatever it is, you can just enter 'your' width:height in Gimp, as the 'Fixed Aspect' in Rectangle Select Tool.
Rough guess of your screen dimensions seems to be something like 3:1 aspect, so mine is 1920 x 1080.
3 x 1920 is 5760
1 x 1080 is 1080
Wallpaper needs to be 3:1 ratio so I can dial any number like 3:1, 9:3 27:9 or even 5760:1080 into GIMP's rectangle select (I have to set 'Fixed' as the aspect ratio though.
Now when I activate the rectangle select and click on the image, instead of the usual cross turning into a little box, I'll get a 5760 x 1080 'box' on the screen. If I grab a side or a corner, the box will resize over the image, but keep the same aspect. So if you entered the actual size of 'your' screen, that will be the starting point. Then you position the box over the part of the picture you like, and resize one side or corner to cover just the bit you want to actually see on your screen wallpaper.
It is less complicated that typing all this makes it sound.
In this case, I enlarged the box so it reached from left border to right border, and I just about got all the dragon and the elf to fit.
If you go for a very small area in the picture, the finished image will be pixellated because it will be enlarged many times.
Anyway, here's the result. It took two minutes from clicking the image and selecting 'Open in Gimp, to saving the cropped image.
