(SOLVED) New at LM 20.3. Windows buttoms issue.

Post by pcfan5 »

New at LM 20.3 . Recencently updated from 19.3

Is there a way to put the buttoms close / open / cancel at the bottom of the window.

I isn't nice (for me ) where they are now.

Also if I click on "X" on the windows upper bar, it doesn't work

Yes, if you have Xfce, you can restore your bottom buttons! Go to the Settings Editor (not the Settings Manager) in the menu and in the left-hand column click on xsettings. Then untick the option DialogsUseHeader on the right-hand side, so that this value changes from true to false. Alternatively, simply enter this in a terminal:

Code: Select all

xfconf-query -c xsettings -p /Gtk/DialogsUseHeader -s false
However, this assumes you have a properly working Xfce installation. It is very odd if the "close" button in the top right corner of your windows is not working. You could first try switching to a different theme in the Window Manager settings. However, I suspect your problem lies in the fact that, although you have placed your post in the Xfce section, your system info shows your desktop as Gnome 3.36.9 not Xfce. Possibly you have somehow added a load of Gnome files at some point, which has confused the system. Unless you can find a way of reverting it to Xfce-only, you may end up having to reinstall Mint - but make sure you have a full backup of all your personal data first.

Thank you so very much. I tried what you told me, now I have the buttoms the way I like it ! Thank you!!!!. (Line Edited)

I understand you can see I have many gnome components, maybe they got there through the update I made from 19.3 to 20 (something similar happened in another machine, where KDE plasma elements got installed).

In order to do the update I followed the guide Clem gave at the Linux Mint Blog.

Now I got my desktop back

I did

Code: Select all

sudo apt install xcfe
and then from Synaptic I remove ubuntu scheme session, and three more packages related.

Code: Select all

 Kernel: 5.4.0-144-generic x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Xfce 4.16.0
  Distro: Linux Mint 20.3 Una
I want to reproduce the name of the other packages, since I didn't write them now... but I cannot. So I went to synaptic, I didn't find them .
I can see ubuntu-gnome-desktop isn't installed.
