I tried mintupgrade and it went poorly

Post by sandbagger »

Hi all
I want to say that I am a HUGE admirer of Mint. It's a boon to someone like me that just wants the os to stay out of the way and be a pleasure to use. Normally when there is a major change, in my world 20 goes to 21, then I would just fresh install ( I have boring backups of my desktop folders on other machines), yep I know about rsync et al but I like to take care of it myself.
ANYWAY, this time I thought I'd give it a shot on a machine I just use for tv viewing. It did not go well. I don't really have timeshift on it running AND I'd didn't read until later you could turn off that check in the hamburger menu ( which I didn't spot ), I also didn't spot that my kodi would be changed which resulted in that being broken. Finally I rebooted a few times with no issues but then for some reason it hung on the logo. I hit ESC to see that was going on but forgot to record the issue. Sorry.
the upshot of all of this is that I will RACE back to just doing a fresh install and restore my data folders. I know a LOT of effort has gone into the upgrade tool and I appreciate WHY it is being done. My concern is that if it's going to be part of sudo apt upgrade I don't want it to effect my existing FOREIGN apps which I "think" means my kodi install.

Right now I am happy with APT but happy to examine FLATPAK at some later stage. I know this is pretty vague but I wanted to contribute in some way.

ONE other issue. For most of 3/17/23 and morning of 3/18/23 ( cst) I couldn't get into the forums. Again I didn't log the splash screen that came up when the request timed out. Thank you for all you do and rest assured I will always have your backs.

I have read some silly comments in this thread and wanted to make sure that you heard from one of the less adept who find this forum and the mint community the BEST in the industry.

Yes, that happened to me too. That usually means this forum website was down.

You probably saw something about Sucuri, etc.

There's nothing you can do about it except wait until the site comes back up.

To my experience during version upgrade flatpak is not affected. Moreover you can have the latest version of kodi, for more info check this out https://beta.flathub.org/apps/tv.kodi.Kodi
