all goes fine until I get to "Running check 'Package repositories'" and then I get
The following error occurred:
Traceback
file "/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintupgrade/checks.py" line 96, in run self.do_run()
file "/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintupgrade/checks.py" line 379, in do_run elif mint_age > 2:
TypeError: '>' not supported between instances of 'NoneType' and 'int'
And then what happens?
If you are stuck on LM19.3, please open the System Reports app and click the System Information tab on the left. Your computer's information should come up in the right pane. Then click the Copy button in the lower right and paste the results into a reply window here so we can see how Linux Mint views your hardware.

I dont see any option to continue after that
Did you put the wrong title on this topic or did you post information from the wrong computer? Your title says you were trying to upgrade from LM19.3, but your inxi data says you are on LM20.3.
System:
Kernel: 5.15.0-67-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: N/A Desktop: MATE 1.26.0 wm: marco
dm: LightDM Distro: Linux Mint 20.3 Una base: Ubuntu 20.04 focal
If you posted the wrong title, I very strongly suggest clearing some space before trying to upgrade again.
yes, I meant 20.3 to 21. sorry about that. the space gets taken up by the timeshift snapshots. I might be better off getting another harddrive and putting a new operating system on it rather then upgrading

I would not recommend upgrading that computer until you clear a lot more space. In fact, you will like soon be running into an issue logging in if you do not clear space.
If you do not regularly remove old kernels, I suggest doing that. Keep your current kernel and one or two older kernels.
I save my snapshots to an external usb drive, but I also only take snapshots on demand (once every few weeks or so).
yes, the kernels are cleared but snapshots take up about 1/3 of the drive and after I posted I did have a problem logging in. I think rather then get an external drive large enough to hold snapshots I will get another harddrive and set up 21 on that. Then use the old HD for snapshots.
