( Solved )Bos Wars

Post by dannyb »

Hello all.
I have installed a couple of solitaire games through the software manager and they work fine. This morning I thought I would get a little more ambitious and install something a bit more .... exciting. So, through software manager, I installed a game called Bos Wars. However, when I launch the game, the splash screen opens in a window and that's it. Just a window with the splash screen. I went to the website listed and downloaded the .tar.gz file but I thought I'd ask for help before trying to install the game that way. I'm pretty new to Linux and don't want to knacker my system up by blindly forging on.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Following is my system info.

I installed the game via software manager and received the same behavior, until I clicked inside the window with the splash screen and it showed the game options.

Thanks. I'll reinstall and try that. Funny thing that the pointer disappears inside the window.

It does, but clicking in the window made the splash go away and game options show.

Yippee! You were right. The game opens and runs fine.
As weird as it may sound, I've never played a game like this, ( never been a "gamer" ). But now that I'm retired I have time to play a little. I've watched a few videos on how to play, and I've clicked on this and that but I just can't figure out how to actually DO anything. I can't find any documentation that explains how to actually get anything done. For instance, When I click on an engineer, the icons on the right change to what I assume are commands for the figure, but I don't know what to do next. I can click on move, but then what?
Totally lost on how to play the thing. Anyone know where I can find a step by step tutorial on this game?
