Hello,
I have Mint last version and I have just installed Vuescan.
This one works only when I set the firewall as input.
I have to create a rule to accept Vuescan as input... but I have no idea what information to enter in the "+ rule" window
Thanks a lot
Fab

Re: Mint, Firewall and Vuescan ?
I've used Vuescan on Mint for a long time. I haven't had to make any special firewall settings for it to run. I'm not sure I understand your problem. Is it not finding your scanner?
Re: Mint, Firewall and Vuescan ?
Thank you for your answers,
Indeed I had no problem before the 21.10 update of Mint.
In fact, I made a new installation on a new HD because an update was too complex.
Without firewall, it works and as soon as I put it back, Vuescan does not find the scanner...

https://www.hamrick.com/support/frequen ... anner.htmlIf it’s connected with WiFi, make sure your firewall and router aren’t blocking mDNS responses (UDP port 5353) or Canon responses (UDP port 8610 and 8612). Also, make sure you aren’t using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) because this will interfere with finding scanners on the network.

Many many thanks AndyMH, now that's OK UDP 5353 was blocked.
Now, all is correct.

Thanks for all !!
Re: Mint, Firewall and Vuescan ?
Glad to find another vuescan user, there are only a few of us on the forum. Whenever I suggest it as a solution to a potential scanning problem I'm usually met with silence. Yes, it's not free, but worth every penny and I've been using it for well over ten years.

Re: Mint, Firewall and Vuescan ?
You are right; I have also been using Vuescan for more than ten years on several versionsmy wife's Windows and on my various Linux systems.
I first used it because of an old scanner that no longer had a driver available, and later, especially because of the very good respect of the reproduced colors. Then came many improvements : histo. Raw, OCR...
Really a nice tool that I can't get rid of...
