[SOLVED] Desktop background images for Linux

Post by mintd »

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there are any good (safe) places to find desktop background images for Linux? I saw there are a few when I go into 'System Settings > Backgrounds' and would like to explore some more images. Is there an official Linux place for finding more backgrounds?

Thank you!

Each Mint release comes with a new set of background images and many from previous
releases are spectacular. I archive them all.
Go to your Software Manager and search the term backgrounds.

If I need stock photos for a Desktop, I go to this website below, Wallpapers Craft.

Linux Mint 21.3 (Virginia) Xfce
MX Linux 23.2 (Libretto) Xfce
Linux Debian 12.5 (Bookworm) Xfce

Thank you all41 (and sorry for the slow reply!).

That's great with the backgrounds being available in the Software Manager - there are a lot! Is there any way to preview the collections of backgrounds for each version/edition of Mint to see which ones I like without having to download them all? Are they also available somewhere on the Mint website to see? Thank you.

I use Variety from Software Manager. It works beautifully and you can download images from several free sources without registration and password by set keywords or other criteria. I've accumulated about 800 MB of images in the program folder, which is in the Home directory. Now I have stopped new downloads, but every 15 minutes I get a new wonderful wallpaper. :D
