External partitions available at startup, but not internal ones

Post by nonhocapito »

In my setup, Mint 21.1 Cinnamon is being run from an external hard disk connected to a Windows laptop.

Everything works fine, but the NTFS partitions of the hard drive inside the laptop, while being mounted at startup, are not being made available until actively clicked on.

I have a few external HDs with NTFS partitions that are all mounted and available at startup! In file manager, they are shown first. On desktop, they regularly show up.

The partitions inside the laptop, however, are shown in "other locations", and are only made available when the user clicks on their icon from the file manager.

Until then, apps cannot access them, and won't show up on the desktop.

How to give those internal partitions equal or better priority over the external ones? And make sure they are available system-wide at startup?

I solved this problem.

1) Open Disks and select "Edit Mount Options" for each partition.
2) Counterintuitively, deselect "User Session Defaults".

Without any further changes, this causes all partitions marked for auto-mount to be properly accessible at startup.
Though the internal partitions still appear in "other locations" in the open/save dialogs. Meh.

What about if the internal second HDD is locked on Disks?

I can't select the "edit mount options"

Have you tried running Disks as root? May be a permissions problem.

I figured it out. It had something to do with some windows drivers that needed to be installed in my laptop.

Thanks for getting back.
