Some programs are stuck in light theme.

Post by Titan970 »

So I installed GNOME to try it out, but I have since switched back to using Cinnamon.

The problem is that now some of my programs that were previously in dark theme are now stuck in light theme, even if dark theme is checked in their respective settings. Some of the programs I have found that seem to be stuck in light theme are GIMP, GPU Screen Recorder, and FSearch. I haven't found any other programs like this but I suspect there are more.

I have tried uninstalling gnome-desktop-enviroment with apt-get remove, and it says that it's not installed. Same thing with ubuntu-desktop.

Open Users & Groups and create a new account for testing. Reboot and log into the new account. How does it appear there?

If this gives the same appearance, restore the system with an appropriate Timeshift snapshot.

Did that, interesting results. After creating a new account and setting all the themes to dark mode, only GIMP changed to dark theme. Both GPU Screen Recorder and FSearch were still stuck in light theme. After logging back into my main account, GIMP was back to light theme.
I'll try timeshifting tomorrow to see if that fixes it.

Yes, a timeshift restore form beffore you installed any other DEs would be best.

Installing multiple desktops to test them is just a bad idea. No truly knowledgeable Linux geek I know of would do it. It tends to create problems that are really hard to diagnose, which means you won;'t have much luck on any of these community support Linux forums. The second choice would be a data backup and clean reinstall.
