Ubuntu Cinnamon again
Yesterday a distribution with an ugly name UbuntuCinnamon received (after several years of unsuccessful attempts) a status of an official Ubuntu flavor. Distributiopn leader is a full-time student Joshua Peisac.

The latest daily ISO is on the Ubuntu website https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntucinnam ... e/current/, It seems that Cinnamon was repurposed from the Debian implementation even without removing Debian wallpapers. There is no Internet browser and a lot of crashes occurs in the underlying Ubuntu base.

Re: UbuntuCinnamon again
Yeah, well.... I wish them good luck, though. But I'm happy with my Mint (Cinnamon and Xfce).

Re: UbuntuCinnamon again
I don't think it makes a lot of sense to use Cinnamon on a Debian base when there's already Mint.
I can understand if you use Arch or Fedora though.

Re: UbuntuCinnamon again
List of Linux Distros continues to grow every time folks are able to figure how to put Linux pieces together.
Then it is released to the public and the developers are overwhelmed with complaints of bugs, installation issues, crashes, you name it.
Software development is not a walk in the park. It takes decades to mature.
Even Windows flavors like XP, 7, or Mac took years before they became stable. They're updated with so-called service pack 1, 2, 3...

Re: UbuntuCinnamon again
Seems a 'over the top' path to take - a new Distribution.
It is a simple task to add the Cinnamon Desktop to the normal Ubuntu Distribution.

I have had one running as a VirtualBox guest for quite some time..

Re: UbuntuCinnamon again
I just saw the ballyhoo about this, on Google News a minute ago.
wondered how I missed it here, seems I didn't miss it very much.
https://<blocked blogspam>/2023/03/28/ubuntu- ... al-flavor/
I found a lot of folks in the comments lambasting the article, I will be a died in the wool Mint user for a very long time.
For me, the integration is just so smooth, it just plain works.....
my sister who is a died in the wool MS Windows user, and claimed nothing else would ever grace her desk, is now using LM20.3 Cinnamon.... she is now 73 years young, and VERY opinionated.
I will upgrade her to LM21.latest when I revisit her this summer.

Re: UbuntuCinnamon again
It is not bad at all that Cinnamon DE gets more recognition.
Yaru-themed Cinnamon looks nice (in screenshots).
Substantial maintenance costs will be alleviated for the team behind Ubuntu Cinnamon.
These are all good things.
Is Ubuntu Cinnamon a real contender for current or potential users of Linux Mint? No.

Re: UbuntuCinnamon again
Ubuntu Cinnamon becoming an official flavor with the upcoming release 23.04 has been the goal since the previous version.
So far I've been trying UbuntuCinnamon 22.04, still an unofficial remix, and except for some aesthetic issues ("UbuntuCinnamon" in the boot sequence as one word, default Ubuntu-Gnome installer clashing with Cinnamon custum theme) it was quite a nice experience.
However, I still would prefer installing the Cinnamon DE on Ubuntu Mate, simply because I like the Ub-Mate colour scheme, just like the standard Gnome Ubuntu Theme. I just don't really like the "pumpkin"-coloured custom theme of Ubuntu Cinnamon, although it is the only Yaru theme that comes with an explicit Cinnamon part (for the taskbar and menu). However, I've made good experiences with other full Cinnamon themes like Jade-1 or the various Cinnamox versions.
Last but not least an interesting side note:
It just seems impossible to install Cinnamon as your only DE on Ubuntu (maybe that will get solved soon). But so far, even my own experiments with Ubuntu Server 22.04 ISO and manual installation of Cinnamon - both minimal and full edition - also brought in the entire Gnome desktop, albeit as rather "Vanilla" version.
However, when you already have another official Flavour DE installed, Cinnamon will come without Gnome.
Consequently the Ubuntu Cinnamon remix comes with a minimal Xfce installation as "side dish".

Now Ubuntu Cinnamon is available

Cinnamon is the Mint flagship DE. Mint is derived from Ubuntu. No I am not talking about LMDE. We have to see what would be the effect on Cinnamon Mint.

Re: Ubuntu Cinnamon again
Will the number of installs of Mint affected by it? That depends on how good is the Ubuntu variation.
Soon someone will post the comparison of the two. I am a happy Mint user for more than 8 years.
