Windows Locking Up, Nemo, Firefox, xed, etc..

Post by mintyblue »

These issues are not application specific. Whenever I click the minimize button the application will not minimize. It will freeze the application window and the other buttons or cause the application window to disappear when clicking the maximize button. The exit button does not function at all. I have to click the application on the task bar to restore functionality and not all functions are always restored. When acting up, If I try to drag and drop a file into a folder, it acts like the folder isn't there and drops the file on the desktop behind the folder. It started after I did the latest update, with apt. I suspected a kernel issue and I booted with an older kernel and the same issue occurs. As you can see below, I'm currently using 5.15.0-60 and not 5.15.0-69, which is also installed. I created a new user and the new user did not seem to be affected. Searching the Linux Mint Forums and Google did not help me get any closer to finding an answer. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I believe I fixed the issue. As stated above, in my original post, a new user profile did not experience the same issues. So I looked in the /home directory of the new profile and found the directories and folders listed below. .cache in my user profile had over 2gb of data. I renamed the folder to .cache.bak and created a new .cache folder, then rebooted. After roughly 30 minutes of use, I have not had any repeat of the issues in my original post.

directories
.cache/
.config/
.cinnamon/
.hplip/
.linuxmint/
.local/
.nv/
.themes/

files
.bash_logout
.bashrc
.dmrc
.gtkrc-2.0
.gtkrc-xfce
.profile
.Xauthority
.xsession-errors
.xsession-errors.old
