How do you 'drag & drop' on Fluxbox?

Post by mintnoob »

Was trying to drag a file from my flash drive to the Fluxbox desktop, but couldn't. How do you copy files over?

Edit: Fluxbox, not Xfce.

Open the Home folder, and the desktop in there. Open your flash drive as a folder. Then drag and drop files from one folder to the other.

So the Xfce desktop is not really a desktop?!

Xfce is truly a desktop!! Ranking just behind Gnome and KDE. And coming up fast. :P

However, you move files from an external source (ie: USB) to the Xfce desktop ... the drive must be 'mounted' first.

Apparently, it is much easier to 'mount' a drive or partition in Gnome with Nautilus (File Manager),
than it is in Xfce desktop using the Thunar (File Manager)?

Mounting drives, either internal (such as other partitions) or external (USB, CD) requires you to install "Mount All" or a similar App. from the Repositories (Synaptic)

Search through the Ubuntu Forums or the Xfce Forums for detailed instructions on "How-to Mount in Xfce"

http://xfce.org
http://forum.xfce.org/
http://wiki.xfce.org/
or http://ubuntuforums.org

I do believe that is, also, a thread about 'mount-ing' in this forum, as well.

Oops, I meant Fluxbox, not Xfce! hehe I'll ask a mod to move this thread.

While we're waiting on this thread to be moved:

Fluxbox has no native support for desktop icons and I didn't preinstall anything to support them (idesk is generally recommended for desktop icon support in Fluxbox but still it's more than a drag-&-drop process). Open everything with the file manager and then drag-&-drop from there.
