Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread
All the icons are from installing mac4lin. Go here http://sourceforge.net/projects/mac4lin/. The only addition was AWN and you can get that through synaptic. The Mac4lin comes with the theme for AWN also. The wallpaper I got was from here: http://www.ewallpapers.eu/Computers/App ... urora.html
Go here to show how to install it. http://www.howtoforge.com/mac4lin_make_ ... like_a_mac

Horribly OOC but I'm in a downer and need shock therapy...
I won't go into the details because I doubt anybody's brave enough to actually want to reproduce this

At Katz: Pretty colourful and not bad, allthough I wouldn't use it for nothing, I just love dark, nit and clean desktops, I think that rainbow window borders would be too much for me
I'll post mine soon.

vrkalak: I'm going to install Mint 7 XFCE today. What's that horizontal system monitor thingy at the top of your screen? It looks really nice.
Edit: Ah, Conky, of course. Thanks!

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread
I do like it! Even though I'd take off all the icons from the desktop, just a matter of taste
Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread
I keybound things (Major things) using shift+(first letter of the application name). For instance: shift+f for firefox, shift+a for abiword, shift+t for a terminal, +g is for gimp, +r for rhythmbox and so on

You could always use Gnome-Do. Awesome tool.
The only thing on my desktop is a blank panel with a notification area. I find no need for anything else.

Gnome-Do isn't a dock, it's a tool. It can be used as a dock but I'd say most don't use it as such.
I don't know how bad your experience could have been though - I find docky to be far and away the most stable dock.

Here's my work station, bare minimum (but keeps me happy)
Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread
My Minty Netbook Remix desktop on a full sized 17" HP laptop.
Everything works great once Compiz is more or less disabled.
My 4.5 year old son's desktop has a bit of an issue with icons disappearing from the desktop so I had to add the MintMenu back to his desktop so he would have access to his games.
I like using the UNR desktop personally, but also because it makes a great kiosk for my son once I have edited all of the unneeded programs from his 'menu'.
Oh, and I have to either right click on the program in the task bar or use the programs File menu to close programs. I know there is supposed to be a program that Ubuntu uses to add the [X} to the taskbar, but I haven't bothered to go looking for it yet because it's no big deal to me.

Well, I made the switch to XFCE and I'm glad I did. Here's my new desktop. Click the image for full-size:
EDIT: Decided I liked Conky better in the upper-right.

Hehe, I did my computer as well at 15 or 16, have been playing with toy-soldiers for my childhood!MasterPoppy wrote:Your 4 1/2 year old son has his own desktop computer to play games?! I got ripped off with my childhood, I got my first computer at 16 and here are the stats:Poiema wrote:My 4.5 year old son's desktop has a bit of an issue with icons disappearing from the desktop so I had to add the MintMenu back to his desktop so he would have access to his games.
256MB of RAM, 2 GHz Processor (AMD Sempron 3000+), Graphics Chip that can't handle CS 1.6 and a 60 gig hard drive.
I still use it too, I up'd the RAM to 703MB. As for gaming during childhood, I literally have an Atari and a small TV next to me.
I feel like I got screwed with this whole "being a child" business.
And anyways, you wouldn't have to remember all the hotkeys using the first letter of the software's name, or at least, I wouldn't have to.. but i've an iron memory!

Haha, sticks. You guess right, that's not hard at all!!MasterPoppy wrote:I suppose remembering f=firefox and s=songbird couldn't be that hard I suppose. I'd like to add that I played with sticks.
