I haven't the foggiest idea what to do about it,
every thing seems to be working okay,
have not shut down the laptop yet though.

Do not reboot until you clear some space. 22 gig is not enough for a root partition. I have 150 gig assigned for mine. Good luck.

too late for that warning,
I did a reboot and it froze with a warning
warning2.jpg
argh!
now what?
fortunately, I kept my sanity and refused to kill myself....
my cellphone saved the day,
and I managed to Reinstall Cinnamon again, and Firefox,
and then I thought " why am I doing all of this?? "

brought up Timeshift and went back to Yesterday, and all is good again.

Except, I need to clear up Root.

Are you keeping more old kernels than you really need?

Update Manager: View > Linux Kernels > Remove Kernels

Do you have the automated maintenance of old kernels enabled?

Do you have any room in other partitions on that drive? If you do, you can use gparted to shrink a partition, and then expand your root partition. You can drag the edges of the partitions with gparted. Again good luck.

I checked and it seems I only have 2 Kernels installed,

Kernels 5.15.jpg
kernels 5.19.jpg

I will shutdown, and boot up to a Live Session on USB stick, and see what I can do with the Root Partition.

Tnx to all for your help

You don't need 150 GB, but I'd say 30 GB is the minimum for Mint these days (not counting Timeshift and Home, which you obviously have on other partitions). By the way, if you're not Terminal-phobic, this command runs much faster than Disk Usage Analyzer: sudo du -xhd1 / | sort -hr.

I just a bit fuzzed out on WHY that warning came up at all?

I had Root set at 48gB and there was 22gB empty, so why the warning?

Ran Foxclone and made a full backup of the entire SSD that is installed.

Booted up LM21 live session, and ran gparted.

Shrunk /home 40 gB
increased Root to fill up the new space.

Rebooted and all went well for a bit, and then it locked up.
Press BIOS key and powered down.

Rebooted, and all is well.

this is how the SSD looks now, and it is running just fine.
guess my Stars were in Alignment?

I am glad it worked for you. This is where gparted really shines. :D

a Weird one.

Now that there is tons of room on Root,
that Error warning just came up again, said
0 bytes left
I clicked on Ignore and just kept on going.
Not going to worry about it without more info from you guys.

Re: Just got a warning Root has '0' bytes left --- [ solved ]

I am not an expert and others may see something I am missing, but I see two EFI boot partitions. One on the NVME drive and the other on the SATA drive. I am wondering if there tripping on each other. There is only 1mb used on the EFI partition on the Sata drive, If it were on my system I would probably remove it. Anyone else have an idea?

System report:
Partition:
ID-1: / size: 84.42 GiB used: 20.56 GiB (24.4%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/sda2
ID-2: /boot/efi size: 256 MiB used: 31.1 MiB (12.2%) fs: vfat
dev: /dev/nvme0n1p1

ID-3: /home size: 368.74 GiB used: 186.64 GiB (50.6%) fs: ext4
dev: /dev/sda4

Grub is on the NVME drive because it lists both Mint and Win10

I can boot to either of them, if I select Win10 before it times out

this laptop, originally only had the NVME drive with win10 on it,
I added the Samsung SSD and used that solely for Linux

I think that is where Mint boots up from,
Grub points to that 1mB file.

and why Delete it anyway? 512mB out of 500gB?
totally unnoticeable

FWIW, I'm quite certain it isn't. For one thing, inxi shows the nvme EFI partition is being mounted. For another, 1 MB isn't enough space for the Mint boot loaders (checking, I see they use 6 MB). If it were important, we could confirm by comparing efibootmgr -v with sudo blkid, but I don't think which EFI partition is being used has any relevance to the problem at hand (the mysterious but hopefully harmless "'0' bytes left" warning)

Freeing up space wasn't the point of the suggestion. It was to eliminate the possibility of conflict. There's no conflict, though, as sda1 is empty for all practical purposes. And two sets of Mint boot loaders on separate partitions wouldn't be a conflict anyway.

/Backup is on 2nd half & the same SSD as the OS which is on the 1st half of the SSD.
I use it to store Timeshift snapshots,
Aptik backups
and some misc stuff.

I thought I had posted this already? guess not, I remember reading it....
been very busy here visiting my son and family, have not seen them in 4 years.

I know that there are some Anal folks who claim that me using /Backup as a dedicated partition on the same SSD as the OS is reckless, sorry folks, been doing this for years and years, and not one failure.
and I make Foxclone backups of the entire 1TB SSD, the last one was just yesterday.

Nah... it's not reckless. It protects the system just fine against dodgy updates, ill-advised installations and user error.
It doesn't protect against total drive failure, but then you are aware of that, and that's rarer anyway.

What Moem said. Timeshift is intended for system restore, not backup. Meanwhile, system backup is better done with other tools, imho.

Sigh,
just woke up from my irregularly Scheduled Nap Time, didn't go to sleep until 4:00 am and now it is 12 noon....

the laptop is never turned OFF, the Screen Blanker just turns off the screen, I avoid
* sleep mode
* suspend
* hibernate
like they are poison, and in my Opinion, that is exactly what all of those Options are, Danger Zone.

it is always on the AC Adapter.... anyhow, the Low Disk Space warning was in my face when I moved the mouse and the Screen lit up....

Low Disk Space3.jpg

AND

Power Mgt.jpg

Sure would like to know why the Low Disk Space is always appearing

SSD.jpg

and the NVME drive where Grub is
