[SOLVED] Problem Liveusb

Post by jofraprez »

I would appreciate your help with the following problem.

I'm trying to install Mint 21.1 and I can't. The Liveusb stays frozen in the first screen, where it shows the boot options with Boot linux mint, Boot linux mint compatibility mode, etc. It stays there and the keyboard doesn't work. It doesn't go past this screen.

I have tried different flash drives and the same thing always happens.

I have tried these flash drives in a laptop and they all work correctly, being able to start Liveusb correctly.

This is the actual state of my PC:

I ran across a similar situation a couple weeks ago.
The business model came with Win installed in legacy mode.
But in that crappy bios there was no way to set the usb stick to boot in the legacy mode.
I finally did the unthinkable--I burned Mint to a dvd and it installed perfectly, and even somewhat
faster than I was expecting.

So maybe check your bios

Based on what you say, does this mean that mint 21.1 live usb only runs on UEFI computers?
I ask because my PC is configured in the bios as UEFI/Legacy... I haven't tried to configure it as UEFI only yet.

No, it does not only run on UEFI, but if it detects your system has UEFI then it will want to use that. UEFI is the more modern firmware and it is possible that is the way your computer was intended to be run.

Normally, one sets up their drive as GPT (although it is not required) to run UEFI. Your sdb Seagate is. Your current LM19.3 is MBR.

Code: Select all

Where were you wanting to install LM21.1?

The installation of LM 21.1 will be on SSD 840 EVO 250GB size: 232.89 GiB scheme: MBR. LM 19.3 will be completely gone from disk.

Update: I have installed LM 21.1 enabling the board with UEFI only. Everything has gone well...so far. I find myself reconfiguring the system with all my stuff.

I appreciate your help. Everything seems to indicate that I have updated to LM 21.1 without problems... so far.
Thanks again.
