No Sound in Win, LM or LIve

Post by 7heaven »

I recently had a boot issue so I used timeshift to get my system back up and running. the problem now is I have no sound at all. I have a dual boot PC with windows 11 and LM 21.1 now, was 21 but since I couldn't seem to find another snapshot with sound working I upgraded from 21 to 21.1 hoping it might help.

There is no sound in windows, LM or in a live session and I have exhausted all remedies I could find, pulse audio and alsa mixer didn't work so I have no idea what else to try.

Any and all help is welcome!

What was the boot issue you had?

Your system needs pulseaudio to be running to have sound and it is not running. However, that should have no effect on whether or not there is sound in Windows or in a live session. You might want to boot to a live session and see if it shows pulseaudio running.

Audio:
Device-1: Intel vendor: Micro-Star MSI driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus-ID: 00:1f.3
chip-ID: 8086:f0c8
Device-2: NVIDIA TU116 High Definition Audio vendor: ASUSTeK driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel
pcie: speed: 2.5 GT/s lanes: 16 bus-ID: 01:00.1 chip-ID: 10de:1aeb
Sound Server-1: ALSA v: k5.15.0-72-generic running: yes
Sound Server-2: PulseAudio v: 15.99.1 running: no
Sound Server-3: PipeWire v: 0.3.48 running: yes

Is there a setting in your computer's BIOS/UEFI related to sound that might have somehow changed?

Thanks for responding!

Here is the link to my boot issue and just to clarify a little my screen was back and prompting for user name and password but after inputting these it just gave me a command prompt like using the terminal:

viewtopic.php?t=397460

Pulse audio is running in a live session and the only audio control I see in the UEFI settings is HD Audio Control and that is turned on.

Also I tried another system snap shot that at first I was reluctant to try as it was from the beginning of march but went ahead and tried it any way (still no sound) so here is the updated system info:

How about a simple switch or Fn key

Is that problem now resolved completely? Your boot repair log seemed to indicate that something happened to the /efi/boot partition. If you restored to the snapshot and had it restore your boot as well, then I think you should be back to whatever you had before you had the problem. (I don't normally handle those types of issues so I'm not positive.)

That also shows pulseaudio running. This is really starting to sound like a hardware related issue.

Have you checked any hardware-related switches/keys as stevengarland suggested?

What is the output of aplay -l?

Do you usually get sound from desktop speakers or through speakers on your monitor (if your monitor has speakers)?

If this is the correct link Support For B560M-A PRO, there is a newer BIOS/UEFI available. Version 2.70 indicates - Update CPU Micro code.

UEFI: American Megatrends LLC. v: 2.60 date: 07/14/2022

I don't have any reason to suspect it will help with this issue, but that sounds like an update you would want to have.
