[SOLVED] Desktop Deadspots
Hi, this is really hard to explain, but sometimes I find that there are dead spots on the desktop. By deadspots I mean areas where I can not click on an object.
I have found I can drag a box over the affected area from a 'live' part of the desktop. That will select it, but I still can not drag that item out of the deadspot by clicking the selected object. The only way to drag an item out of the deadspot is to select multiple items (inside and outside the deadspot) and then drag them using an object in the live part until the object I want is in a 'live' part of the desktop.
Has anyone else experienced this or know what is causing it?

Not me. Are the dead spots always along the edge of the monitor? Always on the bottom?Has anyone else experienced this or know what is causing it?

Re: Desktop Deadspots
Deadspots are towards the top left of the screen as in the attachment.
I tried both of your suggestions, unfortunately the deadspots persist!motoryzen wrote: ⤴Wed May 31, 2023 11:57 pm TitaniumJones

Ha, that is an odd one. You have a unique problem and I have no solution to that. The only way to drag an item out of the deadspot is to select multiple items (inside and outside the deadspot) and then drag them using an object in the live part until the object I want is in a 'live' part of the desktop.
Just for grins give us your screen size and screen resolution. Mine is a 34" monitor - 2560 X 1080 (21:9)
When I start Display it blacks out the screen for 3-4 seconds and then opens up.

I'm using Mint on a 17" laptop screen the display is 1920 x 1080 @ 60.05 Hz. This is also odd because I thought it was 320Hz but anyway, that's what mint says.
This is what Windows 11 offers me in terms of refresh rate.

Please open the System Reports app and click the System Information tab on the left. Your computer's information should come up in the right pane. Then click the Copy button in the lower right and paste the results into a reply window here so we can see how Linux Mint views your hardware.TitaniumJones wrote: ⤴Fri Jun 02, 2023 2:16 amI'm using Mint on a 17" laptop screen the display is 1920 x 1080 @ 60.05 Hz. Hi @TitaniumJones
Do you have conky on that system?
Did you ever?
just saying because I once had a mis-configured conky that was invisible while running but still
padded the area around it.

Re: Desktop Deadspots
It does not come with Linux Mint. It is a system monitor app you have to install.
However, if you do not have these dead spots on Windows, then maybe there is something set to "invisible" on your desktop. Those seem like rather odd, specific locations.
What mode are you currently running with regards to graphics, On-demand or Nvidia-Performance? (I have not heard the mode would make a difference, but that's the only idea I have based on your computer's output.
To find out the possible resolutions being seen by the operating system, you can run

Re: Desktop Deadspots
Hello boys and girls
Here is an update! I have fixed the dead spots.
I wasn't conky!
I don't have it on Windows!
I normally operate in "On demand" mode!
It was a applet called Sticky Notes by Colinss!!!
It was the suggestion of it being something over my desktop. You can see the dock icon in the tray between the Bitwarden icon and the Bose headphones icon.
Thank you all for your suggestions and help.

Re: Desktop Deadspots
That comes with Linux Mint and I just found this bug report stopped showing on desktop(screen) after updating to NVIDIA 530 #103 .
You are using Nvidia 530. I suggest you add your experience on that bug and link to this topic to help with the investigation. Apparently, when the note is created, it is not visible on the desktop for some reason, but it is there.
