I've installed kernel 6.1 again. The wi-fi is ok, but still no sound.

That is a common occurrence. Please see the explanation in this post to install the missing file and let us know if you have questions. Your missing file is sof-glk-es8336-ssp2.tplg which is s different file than the one missing in the other topic.

I have extracted sof-apl-es8336-ssp0.tplg to my download directory, but cannot find a way to copy the file to the intel/sof-tlpg directory, which I can access in Terminal and also in File Manager.

Obviously copy and paste will not work, and I cannot do it with file manager.

Presuming the file you are missing is in the downloads directory, try this:

Yes, that directory does exist, but that is not the directory you specified in your command. Your command is missing /sof-tplg-v2.2.5.

There are multiple files needed and sometimes clearing one error makes the next one visible. If there are no errors, it may be time to try adjustments in alsamixer.

How did we reach the conclusion that the sound card is an Everest ess8336? I think it came from someone else's thread.
I asked Geo support and they could not tell me what it is!

How did we reach the conclusion that the sound card is an Everest ess8336? I think it came from someone else's thread.

I ran a live Manjaro, which uses arch rather than ubuntu.
Alsamixer (F6) shows sofessx8336 soundcard.

I don't recall specifically saying you had an Everest card, but we know your system is using the 8336 sound card and I believe most of the ones using it are Everest hardware.

alsamixer doesn't work anymore.

Please give more detail on exactly what that means. What message do you get when you try to open it?
