Monitor flashes when roused from blanked state

Post by Catsbark »

My system (info below) has been running well and reliably since I got my original install done correctly in December 2021. I do not suspend, hibernate, or use a screensaver. Power settings blanks the screen after 30 minutes. Recently - since like a few weeks ago - the screen sometimes, but not always or even often, flashes when I rouse the system from that blanked screen state by moving the mouse. The entire screen flashes on and off rapidly. If I left click the mouse the flashing stops and everything works normally. I have not tried any other action, like a key press or right mouse click, but I think either would work as well as the left click does.

There was a kernel update the other day, and I haven't seen this problem since, so if this is an issue with the video in the last kernel before what I'm using now, then I'll be fine going forward. If anyone knows of some other problem that might have caused the flashing, I'd like to hear about it and how to deal with it if it happens again.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

EDIT 6/2/2023 8:00 AM PDT:

A little new information: This happened again last night, so it hasn't self-repaired. I usually minimize all running apps when I walk away from my computer, but last evening I left one window open. When I roused the system from screen-blanked state the flashing started and I left-clicked the mouse as usual. The flashing did not stop, and I noticed that the mouse pointer was inside the open window. When I moved the pointer outside the window and clicked again, the flashing stopped. So it seems that the pointer being inside the app window affects the situation.
