Forza Horizan 5 crashing
So I am trying to run Forza Horizon 5 on Linux Mint 21 through steam using Proton experimental (also tried Proton 8.0 - 2, same result). At different times during the first mission/intro thing the video will freeze, then the audio will freeze to and then it will crash. Does anyone no what I am doing wrong? NOTE: I am very new to Linux Mint and the forums so I am sorry if I didn't write this question very well (:

Re: Forza Horizan 5 crashing
What is your system info? This seems to be a common problem with NVidia cards according to ProtonDB. Tinker and a little configuration may work if that is the case.

Re: Forza Horizan 5 crashing
Sadly I experienced the same thing under both Fedora and Arch based distro optimized for gaming. There is no yet reliable solution to this one. You can lower your settings to lesser chances of crashing, especially if you lock frame rates and turn of vsync.
My experience has been it runs stable on AMD open source drivers. Then I updated to faster nvidia graphics and all games have run smooth and better except for Forza Horizon 5 .
As practical solution you may need to dual boot to windows just to play this game. Even just recently released 535 drivers didn’t help. After I switched to Windows 11 it runs excellent for me. Rufus has built in tool to remove pesky TPM and SecureBoot requirement. Not sure what’s tool on Linux good for imaging Windows ISO but you can’t use DD for that like you can for Linux distributions without issues.
Or just install windows and Linux on hyper-v at full screen.

Re: Forza Horizan 5 crashing
It is currently "silver" on ProtonDB It takes some tweaking and a little bit of luck on Linux.
--> Doggy Dandelion: Upgrade you kernel. Can't say it will help specifically with the game but surely it will help with your CPU / system in general.

Re: Forza Horizan 5 crashing
Don't feel bad. I have Forza 4 and had the same problem under Windows 10. Nvidia drivers where really messed up. All my games were crashing, if i played on-line, since last September. I ended up installed old Nvidia drivers to fix all my games - it would be nice if you could do that with Linux. The June release of their drivers and the new Steam updates fixed all the problems i was having so I can use the new drivers now without any issues.
